The Poet Dreaming of the City of Light (2012)
A lovely view of Edinburgh, viewed through a poet's eyes.
As a previous visitor to Edinburgh, I find this film a lovely and different view of the city, as viewed through a poet's eyes. Excellent photography, composition and narration. The film takes you through the people from Edinburgh that made contributions to science, literature and technology, as well as many of its notable architectural features. Notable are the scenes shot in St, Giles Cathedral and the Royal Botanic Gardens. The changing lights and atmospherics of the city have been captured well. Cindy Scott's narration fits the film perfectly, using the local language tonalities and rhythms to give the viewer the feeling that he is a part of the city, However, some of the more expected and recognizable features of the city were not shown, such as Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace, or the Royal Mile. A commendation on this most worthy effort!
