Peter Pan & Wendy (2023)
Not a Peter Pan, but Wendys and Hook movie.
Oh man, has passed a long time since I saw a Disney live action that really has a decent script and direction. This is not just a new adaptation of the classic, it is more like a reinterpretation of the story, and it works.
Now let's see it's weakness: the cast, I really enjoyed with the Jude Law's performance of Captain Hook he is so amazing and nailed in every aspect, Ever Anderson is just ok as Wendy I liked, but the participation of Alexander Molony for a strange reason seems to be a secondary addition instead to be the main protagonist, I really don't like what they did with Peter Pan here, and this was the only conflict I had when I finished to watch this movie.
I still can recommend to watch this with the family though, is just Disney's, so the entirely family can enjoy it with no problem, it is fun and goes by fast, indeed I almost didn't realized it was going to finish till the end battle.
It is good and I liked that it doesn't pretend to be more than just a movie meant for kids.
House of the Dragon: The Black Queen (2022)
Fire Sara Hess
I don't understand why start the dance of dragons with two horrible scenes, one that is left over and another that doesn't have the impact that it should because of the meaning it has, let's move on to it.
First of all, having seen writer/producer Sara Hess's witty comments about Daemon, and her insistence that this character shouldn't be to our liking just because is not of her's liking, I wouldn't be surprised if she had something to do with it. In that scene with Daemon, and I say that, because I know perfectly well that you know which scene I'm referring to, because personally it totally took me out of the series, yes, Daemon is a scoundrel to say the least, but if something has been developing for 9 episodes of the House of the Dragon series is one Daemon that if feels sincere affection for something it is for his family, I don't think the producers want to mark another "Daenerys Mad Queen".
The second scene and even more important than the previous one, the scene of Aemond and Lucerys, everyone is saying that the book this and the book that, but personally, I think that making Lucerys a victim of the situation and not of Aemond, it takes all the meaning out of that enmity, it takes drama out of the series, which is basically its main element, the genre this series tries to represent, but what weighs me down the most, is that those who really empathized with the character will see only a shocking death , when it should be shocking and horrible, shocking and tragic, limiting Aemond to a bully has seemed to me one of the most pathetic creative decisions, and I really haven't find doubtful the quality of a series of this size since the final seasons of GoT , I don't want the series to take that path, of creative liberties to set an agenda, or to give unnecessary depth to the plot, the cake doesn't need more frosting, George made a book and his work deserves respect, it deserves to be adapted faithfully to the characters.
Of the rest of the episode I have nothing more to say, it complies, without going beyond the unfortunate failures of it.
The Book of Boba Fett: Chapter 7: In the Name of Honor (2022)
Full of action and exciting finale.
This chapter wraps up another good addition to the Star Wars universe, The Book of Boba Fett.
Finally the protagonist returns with literally all the tricks he has, there is a lot of action, and really emotional and exciting moments.
I liked that the central conflict of the series was closed, because I didn't see it as relevant enough to extend it into another season, although there are still doubts that will surely be resolved in a future series or second season, these series really are the best thing that has happened to Star Wars since The Clone Wars, once again, thank you Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau.
The only thing I see as something negative is that the whole chapter is very predictable despite the twists it has, despite that I think it really manages to live up to expectations.
As a final point, I confirm that the little green Mandalorian stole this series, it is not a complaint.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
A love letter for spider-man
Maybe the previous installments of the Spider-Man of the MCU were somewhat disappointing due to the dependence of the arachnid on other characters like Iron Man or ... Iron Man, something which this installment tries in its own way to fix.
The story and the acting feel more solid, actually I don't remember getting so emotional about a spider-man movie before.
The villains of the previous versions of the friendly neighbor are back, and how could it be otherwise they steal the show, it is incredible to see them interact, it is awesome the fact that we learn a little more about them and how some of them relate with each other.
There are an infinity of references to the previous installments, each character that returns, has their moment of nostalgia, as well as there is a bit of a lot of fan service.
There were many expectations but he easily manages to meet them, it is not perfect, but in the end it feels like the only spider-man movie of the MCU made with love, the ending despite being satisfactory, much in fact, still leaves many doubts, I'm excited for what's next for this character.
S.O.Z: Soldados o Zombies (2021)
Don't waste your time
They should not have changed the name, this is not soldiers and zombies, this is narcos and zombies, with the bad script and the standard performances of a series of narcos, this simply does not work and does not convince.
Dororo (2019)
Best anime in a very long, long time
I would be lying if I said that I have seen an anime that equals it in quality, it is easily the best anime I have seen in a long time, not necessarily epic, although it has great scenes, but the story is really moving despite the samurai theme and the explicit violence of the series.
It was a great success the way they narrate the theme of the war in a quite realistic way for the genre, stright, without limiting itself to softening or censoring the most violent or bloody parts and mixing it with a tragic story with all that fantasy bases.
The characters are very well written and adapted, the interactions feel very genuine and there are few times that they do not have something of relevance to the context of the story, somethimes they also put aside all the drama to include some filler, which it's not a lot, I suppose so that the weight of all the tension chapter after chapter does not feel so much.
In general, it is an anime that I highly recommend, not suitable for all ages, but without a doubt it is a sample of what the genre is capable of achieving if the studios really put some effort and seriousness when telling their stories.
Cruella (2021)
Best disney's live action movie since... 101 Dalmatians
It is a pleasant surprise to find a children's movie with high expectations delivering the audience a good dose of entertainment.
Cruella feels like a children's movie, maybe not the best posed possible, nor so childish, but there is certainly some heart in the movie, and that shows a lot.
The performances of both Emma Stone and Emma Thompson are dynamic and, at least in the case of the antagonist (Thompson), it feels as genuine as it is terrifying at times, there is no doubt that it is the darkest movie Disney has made, fortunately it's well done.
In general terms the script is not excellent, but it is good, enough to serve as a pretext for an origin story for Cruella. The performances, putting aside those of the protagonists who have reached an exceptional level, the rest of the cast performs well. The rhythm of the film is good, despite the length of the film I did not get bored at any time.
One thing I should be complaining about is that at certain times the production feels a bit light and gives the feeling of watching a low budget Disney Channel movie, yet those moments did not ruin the movie for me.
Conclusion: recommended.
