Girlfriends (2000)
I Love Girlfriends and Tracee
I am a white woman who lives in a small rural town in the Midwest. I have always lived in small rural towns where there is very little racial diversity. I love this show for many reasons. It is wonderful to see into the lives of these women and see the differences in what I am familiar with but also how these differences are about what make us all the same as women of any color. I love seeing how these girls deal w/sex and how for Maya and Joan it is a spiritual sacred thing as well as a physical. How even though they are all African Americans, there are differences in who they are as black women from which section of the country and how far into the city they were raised. Toni is so stuck on herself and so materialistic yet considers herself too black. Joan is motherly, classy and a little snobby yet occasionally she is accused of not being black enough. Maya is tough and street smart yet flaunts her faith and her family ties in everyones face. Lynn is beautiful and from a middle class white family but has no values at all. Tracee is beautiful. Sometimes she can have that "funny face" comedy thing going on with her eyes being so out there but I would die for her cheekbones and her skin color is radiant. I do not like how they make fun of white people. I think there is enough racial intolerance today w/out this, but I suppose that it is to be expected for now. This show is on UPN here and is in reruns. I don't get cable so I am thankful for this. There are very few shows I watch, but this one is in my daily schedule.
Scorchers (1991)
I found this movie to be intriguing
I found this movie to be intriguing. Not what you normally expect from these actors.Jeniffer Tilly for instance does not play her normal bimbo sex kitten. Faye Dunaway still gorgeous enough to portray her rival and James Earl Jones less of his dignified self but perfectly fills his characters shoes. While the action sometimes seems to be moving slowly there is still enough mystery to make you wonder what is going to happen next.I have thought about this movie off and on since renting it and have been trying to purchase it but could not remember the name. True, it is not an edge of your seat movie but definitely thought provoking.
