The One and Only (2002)
Great fun
I loved this film! It was funny and it had a great story. I love Richard Roxburgh! He is a brilliant and talented actor. I don't see anything wrong with this film - its a bit of fun - dont listen to everything that critics say. I gave it a ten and i'm going to purchase the dvd for my collection. :o)
Troy (2004)
!!!
I expected a lot from this film because i had studied the history of Troy extensively. I was unfortunately disappointed when i went to see it. It's 3 hours of fighting with swords, watching brad pitt leap like a gazelle and twirl around so we see his hot bod. It was unusual to see the Ancient Greeks wearing bright blue tie-dyed tunics - they looked like dresses from the 60's. Eric Bana was quite good at playing Hector - but the baby they got to play his son had a really big head and didn't look related to him or his wife - nice one guys. Paris is portrayed as a weak character who we end up not really liking too much - and if you think Orlando is in the film a lot - he isn't its mainly Brad and Eric. I think this film had great potential, i just think they cast the people for the wrong reasons (basically cause they were hot) and they were given poor direction. You realize something is wrong when Achillies is prettier than Helen of Troy - who is meant to be the most beautiful woman in the world....eep! So if you want to see Brad naked for quite a bit of the film, a few nice looking girls and a whole lot of fighting that takes up 3/4 of a 3 hour film, go for it. The Set is beautiful - thats the best thing i can say about it. The music is a poor rip off of the gladiator soundtrack. It's a bit of hot guy fun and lots of naked Brad. Don't go in there with high expectations.
Swimfan (2002)
Eh its ok
I saw this film on foxtel, its ok, i wouldn't pay to see it and i'm glad i didn't. It's just another mindless teenage thriller thats really a bit pointless to make but was made anyway. I suggest you only see it if you're at home and it just so happens to come on tv and there is nothing else on, but other than that its not really worth seeing, its not that its really horrible there's just nothing wonderful about it.
A Beautiful Mind (2001)
A work of Art
This is one of the most beautiful movies i have ever seen, and i believe that Russell Crowe was robbed of the oscar that year, because his performance was unbelievable. This was one of only a few films that really moved me - not only did it have a touching story (based on the real story) it was magical, brilliantly directed and filmed, and had an extraordinary cast that brought this touching and moving story to life. If you enjoy a good, meaningful film, with a good twist at the end (who doesn't like a good twist!!) this is a must see. I gave it a 10 out of 10, I couldn't think of much wrong with it.
Dude, Where's My Car? (2000)
It's tragic
I actually payed to see this at the movies - and i actually don't know why. It would have to be one of the worst films ive ever seen - really its the most tragic thing i've seen in so long. It would have been funny if the jokes didn't continue on and on and on, until it got past the point of rediculous and just made you embarressed for the actors - even though i'm sure they thought it was a riot. Don't subject yourself to this load of rubbish, its a waste of your time and money.
The X Files (1998)
The Truth is in Here
There is nothing bad i can say about this movie. That's why i gave it a 10. Once again i applaud Bowman and Carter for their terrific script and direction. Of course Gillian and David were our favourite Hero's Mulder and Scully, who battled, once again with their lives, the government conspiracy, and even a little bit with their love.... This film isn't just made for the fans, which i think is one of the best things about it. It's made for people who just enjoy a good sci-fi thriller - and they can still enjoy it without knowing any of the background - and you have to admit, Chris Carter is a genius for writing a script that would not only appeal to the fans but to the people who've never seen the show before. If you're an x-files fan, a sci-fi fan, or just love some plain action, see this film. It will not dissapoint you!
Van Helsing (2004)
Another Point to the Aussies!
Its so great to see that Australian Actors are making such a big stand in hollywood. It was a true pleasure to see the three talented aussies, Hugh Jackman, Richard Roxburgh and David Wenham all in this hollywood blockbuster. I had read a few reviews in the papers saying that the film was well done special effects wise, but didn't have a good story line, but i beg to differ. I went into the film, a little skeptical, thinking that if it was anything like the Mummy Returns i would be dissapointed. But i was proven wrong. I thought the film had a fantastic story, the director/writer Stephen Sommers managed to combine all these mythical monsters into one story and make it exciting and intersting and that in iteslf is quite a challange to do. The cast was perfect, with the handsome and talented hugh jackman as the lead, and the beautiful Kate Beckinsale by his side. The performance that really inspired me was Richard Roxburgh, he is amazing in everything that i've seen him in and i think that hollywood directors are starting to recognise the pure talent this man has. I think this movie is worth while seeing, its action packed, the story is interesting, the special effects are brilliant, all the actors are fantastic. Its a thrill ride, enjoy!!
