The Song of Names (2019)
A great film, mostly, but...
Who decided that a great young musician on his way to his first featured performance could fall asleep on a bus? I mean, really? And then randomly meet a survivor of the same camp his family died in just round the corner from the synagogue where one of the last surviving Rabbi's from the same camp kept the oral list of the names of the dead? Does no one vet this stuff in pre-production?
Great performances from the younger cast, and good from all, although expecting Clive Owen to consistently deliver an accent as a Brooklyn Jew originally from Warsaw and raised in London is a stretch.
Beautifully and expensively filmed and produced. Still mystified about the actors "playing" the violin so well.
One Chance (2013)
Rushed ending. Bad accents.
I live five miles from Port Talbot. James Corden's accent was terrible. His friend Ruth Jones was local. Surely he could have asked for help. Port Talbot is not in Cornwall.
The "bully" is, presumably still around. Is he OK with his portrayal in the film?
Adventure Boyz (2019)
Great Family Movie
I was a little concerned when I saw that the Writer / Director had cast his own two sons in the lead roles, but I needn't have been, both the boys were excellent.
This is a really nice film which nods to The Goonies, Home Alone, The Famous Five etc, but which also has its own distinctive style and identity.
Fabulous locations throughout, allowing that epic first chase from the hill above Corsica Hall {Seaford} to Wilmington without anyone dying. I think I also spotted the pond which Truely's car runs in to in Chitty Bang Bang {the boys are sitting despondent on a wooden jetty with traffic in the middle distance}.
We enjoyed all of it and were pleased that the audience burst in to spontaneous applause as the first credits rolled.
We wish everyone involved the best for the future of this Sussex Project.
