The Takeover (2022)
Bad comments, but not THAT bad a movie
I always find it amusing, when US "critics" write about "realism" in a European production, whereas approx. 75 per cent of Hollywood productions are everything BUT realistic. This goes also time and again and often enough for poor acting and directing.
The pace in this flick from the Netherlands ist OK, the acting maybe average, direction is OK, the storyline could be worse, agreed.
And, so? It's not a Hollywood-blockbuster (whatever THAT is supposed to be) and we do not have the humongous budgets over here to pull a flick like TOP GUN MAVERICK.
Nuthin' personal though, so chill.
Greetings from good 'ole Europe.
Les combattantes (2022)
10 out of 10 for a French prod!
This french mini-series has it all: the storytelling, the acting, the pace, the actors, the production, the score, the camera.
Being from Luxembourg, I know what I am talking about, as I followed MANY other french series.
I cannot and do NOT wish to spoil ANYTHING about the plot: discover it for yourselves and get surprised.
Of course, it is a HUGE advantage being able to watch it in its original FR-version.
Hint: it is not for the faint of heart.
Enjoy it simply. I binge-watched it within 1 day and a half.
I gave it a straight 10 out of 10, which is EXTREMELY exceptional.
Superb success for my French neighbors, period.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Top Movie
As of today, I'm 51. I saw the first one in a tiny theater (compared to yours in the US) in my country, Luxembourg. Back then, I was in awe.
TGM now: I was in double-awe (bad English, I know, don't know how to enhance it).
The pace, the cast, the flight scenes, the score... What can I add to continue?
Personally, for me, one the best and brightest for 2022, for sure. I'd given 12 out of 10 if possible.
You've read the story, no need to repeat it here. And I will spoil exactly zippo.
Greetings from Luxembourg.
Creed (2015)
Acting, photography, directing, the score, it's all there... again.
Well, to put it short: I didn't like it "the first time" and abandoned viewing after 25 minutes give or take.
As of today, I gave it a re-run on NF. Maybe it's me or my current mood: this time, it was a self-running flick.
Although I am NOT a good technical critic as regards a movie as such, I loved it. Many moment reminded me of the first ROCKY movie. The atmosphere is there, nothing is done "over the top", the filming itself is outstanding an the score superb.
Go for it or give it second chance like I did.
The Blacklist (2013)
TV SERIES ON A DECLINING NOTE
This TV series is certainly one of my favorites. It started rocket-stile to a steady height, with a comfortable cruising speed. Alas, starting with season 8 and then eventually season 9, the autopilot switched itself off. Back and forth and forth and back, sorry: this looks like "Owww, we forgot the script for the last 2 seasons. What shall we do?" I REALLY DO have a hard time finishing this. Some episodes I had to view them in fast-forward because of some really annoying and fatiguing twists and turns. As a consequence, I finally dropped my rating from 9 to 7. And, please, STOPP adding the "cocking sound" every time an FBI-agent or a vilain pulls a Glock or any other striker-fire handgun: it's simply ridiculous and totally unprofessional.
Interceptor (2022)
Ridiculous reviews, to say the least
Currently rating 4.6/10? Seriously? I liked it. THIS would have been a much better closure for the DIE HARD franchise, for instance. Because. A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD shouldn't even have gotten 2 out of 10 in rating. That was the first movie in my life (I'm 51) where I left the theatre after exactly 25 minutes. INTERCEPTOR is well made, the ending is somewhat surprising. Considering the actors, we all have seen much worse (and much better). But movies are like every form of art, especially music. It's hard to discuss taste. I, for myself enjoyed it, and that's the only thing that matters to me. I gave it an 8.
6 Underground (2019)
Well orchestrated action movie
If you are into "author" movies, move on, nothing to see here. I discovered this one by pure accident on NETFLIX. I enjoyed every minute of it, it's well orchestrated, well played, has a great soundtrack, some cool one-liners. Sometimes, one just needs the pursuits, the gunfights, the girls, the good boys vs. The bad boys, some gruesome deaths, and that's pretty it. No need to write a super-scientific abstract about it.
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
BEST Golden Raspberry Award Nominee EVER...!
I've NEVER, EVER seen such a badly made movie in the last 30 years (except for A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD, where I left the theater after EXACTLY 25 minutes).
Poor dialogue, VERY poor acting, poor story, poor directing... you name it.
Clearly, in this... ehm... "movie"..., nothing works.
1 star for the SFX.
WHAT a waste of time.
