Unique, but flawed
The first season had all the right ingredients. Somewhat funny, great use of Sci-Fi elements (astute commentary even, akin to Black Mirror), likeable lead, intriguing plot. It suffered from excessive wokeness (unfortunately everything coming out in the last 20 years follows the same clichés - capitalism bad, "oppressed" folk good) with 0 nuance. The female lead is also pretty unbearable. But overall, it held its own.
However, starting with season 2, the quality dips. Gave up after the first episode. Wokeness was upped a notch and the funny disappeared completely.
First season - 8/10
Second season - don't bother.
Secretul fericirii (2018)
One of the most surprising gems...
It's difficult to write this without giving away spoilers...let's just say there's a blend of comedy, drama and thriller unlike anything else out there. Given its minimalist setting (3 actors on a balcony for the entire film) and its reliance of dialogue and acting in its entirety, this is truly a gem.
This is easily one of the best films of 2018..
Into the Night (2020)
Geographically challenged
I like apocalyptic films and TV shows a lot and this is watchable because of its premise.
Leaving aside that a Russian (seemingly educated) woman literally asks what Bulgaria is at one point; the show is painful to anyone with mild geography knowledge.
They need to fly away from sunrise (hence west) and in the first episode they fly up to Iceland and back down SE to Scotland in a matter of minutes.
Later on they go from Brussels to Bulgaria, literally East towards the sun.
It's mind-numbing- but it's European trash so critics and pseudo-intellectuals will forgive these mistakes and rare it highly; it doesn't fit their worldview that only Americans are ignorant
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
This show will sadly be forgotten
I shall do my best to not make this overly dramatic.
It's been more than 3 months since this show ended. I just realised I can't even recommend this show to my friends and loved ones anymore.
There are a lot of people who have laid down all their concerns here (and there are legitimate ones relating to the whole of season 8), but at the end of the day, what's most heartbreaking is that this show will no longer make anyone's top 10 of best TV shows ever. Almost anyone of course.
What was once an in-depth character study, a rich and complex story with subtleties and sub-arcs...what was once a show that was on its way to enter a league of well-respected TV like Breaking Bad, The Wire, Sopranos, etc...will now sadly be forgotten.
You can't exactly recommend someone to watch season 1-6, have some fun with season 7 and forget about season 8. Because of these last 6 episodes, this show will sadly not be enjoyed by future generations. And that's the saddest part.
That's my 2 cents. I personally will forever love the first 6 season, but i will not recommend this to anyone.
