Star Trek: Voyager: Sacred Ground (1996)
Star Trek at its best
As someone who has struggled with the idea of religion and faith through my life, and who decidedly falls within the science camp that Janeway belongs to, this episode gave me a lot to think about.
This is Star Trek at its best, when it stirs something in you, when its themes and ideas cause you to think about the world in ways you hadn't before.
I can understand why some people don't like this episode, but for me it's always been profoundly interesting.
Good Girls: Au Jus (2020)
Going off the rails...
This is a good show, but this season has been lackluster. It feels like it's dragging out and padding episodes.
This episode especially is making it very difficult to empathize or root for the characters. In the beginning you could understand where they were coming from and you felt their choices were reasonable given the situation. This is no longer the case. Characters make bad decision after bad decision with no actual progress or benefit to speak of. It's just bad followed by bad. At least if they were getting rich you could understand the allure.
However this season has just been one bad thing after another. The writing is creating conflict for the sake of conflict, and it's amping up the intensity, but also losing the essence of the show. Thematically, this one dire note is getting tiresome. I miss the humor and fun of the show.
