Help? (1995)
This was a "What a Cartoon!" great.
i remember sitting in front of the TV back in the late 90s watching Cartoon Network. A show on Cartoon Network (Now CN) was call the "What-a-Cartoon! Show". The "What-a-Cartoon! Show" (Which I will now call WaCS for short) was a show that showcased the talents of young and old, experienced and amateur animators of all kinds. Some of the shows that were presented were the Yucky Ducky shorts, early Powerpuff Girls and Seth McFarlane's Larry & Steve. Now while I was watching this one day the short "Help?" came on. Back then I did not know who Bruno Bozzeto was, but I did know tat this was one of the funniest cartoons I've ever seen. This is how it went (POSSIBLE SPOILERS!):
A large blue cat hurt his finger, so he goes to the hospital. But something keeps happening that holds him back from getting some help. All while every couple of minutes a weak little voice yelps "Help?".
Seriously a brilliant cartoon which seriously deserves a DVD release along with many of Mr. Bozzetto's other shorts. Hopefully others will remember this show as I do, and maybe I can see it again.
The Making of 'Robots' (2005)
Nothing special...
This making of featurette is available on a promotional DVD I picked up from Wal*Mart. Like I stated before, it is nothing special, it's just like any other making of documentary only a little less informative. Drew Carey is your host on this "adventure" through the "set" of Robots. Through the whole documentary he bores you to death because it sounds like he is just reading off of cue cards (Which he probably is doing.). It also shows Chris Wedge talking about how he got the idea of Rodney from an old boat engine. Halle Berry talks a little about her experience on the set while she reminds us of how terrible Catwoman was just by looking at her face. Amanda Bynes talks about her experience as well, telling the viewer how it is different than live acting, etc. Robin Williams also shows up to talk about how he enjoyed working on this film with everyone, while he throws his energetic comedy around at the same time. All in all this documentary is just like any other animated films Making of... featurette. It's really not important that you need to see it, but if you ever find the promotional DVD it is on, be wise and buy it. It might be a nice little DVD for the kids or just a bonus dis you'd like to add to your animation collection or your bonus disc collection. All in all i Give it a **** out of **********. The DVD also contains a trailer for 'The Sandlot 2' and the animated short 'Scrat's Missing Adventure' which was also directed by Chris Wedge.
Cricket on the Hearth (1967)
A timeless Christmas tale for the whole family.
I watched this the other day and found it to be a great animated film. If you have ever seen it you would know that it was based on the not so well known Charles Dickins novel of the same name. Truly a great film, with great animation for the time when it actually came out. This is a must have for any Christmas fanatic and for any film collector, but be warned, this is very hard to find...on DVD or VHS. I HAVE found this film on DVD and if you want it you better search fast because it is at Papa John's as a promotion for a limited time. They really did a good job on the film for 1967 and it will stay a staple in my traditions for films on Christmas for the rest of my life. A true masterpiece that all need to see.
