A Son's Sacrifice (2007)
Great!
I enjoy films that follow a character on their journey of self-discovery. "My Reincarnation", a phenomenal documentary, reminds me a lot of this film. Both characters struggle with their cultural roots in The United States and must evaluate their place in the word. Fox's documentary however has a brilliant way of showing both sides of Yeshi's identity, the Italian civilian and Tibetan reincarnated leader. We watch him travel between Tibet and Italy, where he comes to terms with his significance as a leader in his religion/culture.
Daughters of Wisdom (2007)
Awesome!
A great look into the struggle Tibetan women have solidifying their place in their religion. "My Reincarnation" is a moving documentary that focuses on Tibetan culture and religion through the eyes of someone who is struggling to accept it. Yeshi, the main character works with accepting his identity within the Buddhist religion as reincarnated leader. We watch Yeshi and his fathers relationship mold his perception of his role. It's interesting to witness someone's struggle with importance and leadership. And to compare a persons struggle to either find their place in a religion and out of it.
God's Next Army (2006)
Great !
It's crazy that these kids want to be molded into the "next generation" of leaders, and how well they adapt to the conditioning. For many cultures, it is a blessing and honor to be dubbed the next leader, but for others it's an overwhelming obligation. Such is the case in the documentary I recently had the pleasure of watching. "My Reincarnation" is a specific documentary that follows Yeshi, a man born as a reincarnation on his journey to accept his role as Spiritual leader in the Tibetan community. The documentary is heartfelt and educational. It's interesting to see someone reject and try to juggle with the culture and religion he is born into, it goes to show you that not everyone reacts to the honor of becoming a leader the same way. The Chicago Tribune is raving about this documentary.
