Hatchbak Ghermez (2019)
Truly a Gem
This isn't a world of rainbows and flowers; it's about embracing reality rather than clinging to fabricated illusions and false optimism. It's about facing the truth with a dose of realism (pessimism), revealing the genuine nature of those around us, and dismantling the fairy tale notion of karma. It demonstrates that despite our goodness, the world might not acknowledge it, highlighting our insignificance and the swift reversal of fortunes. Justice is often elusive, and the world is far from a realm of rainbows and flowers.
Regrettably, our cultural constraints restrained the film from delving into a darker narrative. In my view, this movie had the potential for a more intense and compelling conclusion. However, as they didn't fully disclose the characters' ultimate fate, I suppose they intended to leave it open for interpretation by the audience.
Elena (2011)
Harsh Realities of Life and Humanity
This movie was an absolute rollercoaster. The intensity in the final scenes left me brimming with a mix of rage and anger. It powerfully portrays the harsh reality of the world and people's inherently cruel nature. No matter how virtuous you may be, there's always a lurking darkness waiting for its moment to emerge.
It seems that many reviews paint Elena as a saint and the daughter as an ungrateful brat, but I find this perspective profoundly unfair and inaccurate. Without any insight into their prior relationship, it's clear that the daughter is grappling with depressive and nihilistic emotions.
The family Elena supports displays a troubling lack of gratitude, failing to consider the consequences for their children's future while continually relying on external support. This film effectively highlights the unforgiving nature of the world, debunking the notion of karma as a mere myth. It exposes the inherent cruelty of humanity and how easily individuals convince themselves of the righteousness of their actions.
