Da zui xia (1966)
Come Drink With Me
Da Zui Xia: I can really recommend this film. It's entertaining, humorous and fascinating. The martial art skills of Pei Pei Cheng are impressive. And the idea of a meat-eating monk as a bad guy interesting. The drunken fighter is a funny guy who had to put up with the apprehension of Golden Swallow (Pei Pei Cheng) but is meanwhile helping her whenever he can. It is just too bad that the films by Shaw Brothers were boycotted at the time in favour of Golden Harvest, where they had to start their own cinema as their films were not allowed to be shown elsewhere, because they really made very good movies in that era.
Meng long guo jiang (1972)
The Way of the Dragon
Actually , my personal favorite was Fist of Fury (Chinese Connection in the US) but this is also a very good movie and it seems that it was the favorite of his wife Linda Coldwell. Way of the Dragon was known as Return of the Dragon in the US and Chuck Norris must have had fond memories of this one. The illegal filming in the Colosseum in Rome must have been a very daring thing to do. The scene with the dart in a man's backside was quite funny. This was to my knowledge the only Bruce Lee film with some humour in it. The question "Is hore name Tang Lung?" (no spelling error by the way, just the accent the man was speaking) by the Korean guy is the line I think I remember best. It was Bruce's first attempt at directing and he did a very good job too.
Kung Fu (1972)
Kung Fu series
That series was in a time when I hadn't seen Bruce Lee yet. Everybody could see how Carradine sucked at martial arts. He was a good actor but his moves were unprofessional and vague and showing it all in slow motion only made that worse. Furthermore the makers of the series obviously didn't care about anything being authentic. Shuriken (throwing stars) would never have been used in the Shaolin Temple as they were invented by a ninja clan. It would only have been fair if Bruce Lee would have gotten the part as he was entitled to it. He certainly would have improved the quality of it. Hollywood just changed the original story line to fit an American actor.
