Hombre mirando al oeste (2005)
Cinespacio knows it's trade - wouldn't be surprised to see more of them in the near future
I caught this film by chance in the Buenos Aires Rojo Sangre indie film festival and I immediately recognized all the hard work put into it. For being a project with very limited resources it had an excellent professionalism in most of it's areas, I remember being surprised by the great work by the photography director. Most of the shots were brilliantly set and the lights were great for such limited resources. The script although surreal and incoherent at times made the film more interesting as it didn't take itself too seriously but had a very serious and thought-out plot. As a movie geek myself I personally enjoyed all the homages to classic western/samurai films and to directors like Mann or Carpenter, just to name a few. The actors while not brilliant, did a terrific job with their characters and said their lines -which at times were cheesy- very convincingly, I was honestly captivated by the portrayal of a lone musician by Paul Jou Mailliè, and I hope to see more of his collaborations with Torres/Streger in the future. All in all a great Argentinian effort that everyone with a taste for good cinema should watch.
Two thumbs up!
