Rick and Morty: Rickdependence Spray (2021)
First R&M episode I legitimately didn't like
The reason why it was so bad for me is because it seems like something a couple of 13 year old R&M fans would write. Horse sex and monster sperm and incest and what not. It's not particularly creative, it's just trying hard to be obscene. It's like the writers forgot we watch R&M because it's clever, not just because it's gross.
Oh well, I suppose it's a feat to go over four seasons before making a bad episodes.
Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Imperfect, but fun and excellent as B&T should be!
Wanted this film ever since I saw the old films some 15 years ago. It could've done more, and you can tell they cut a lot of things from the script due to the budget, if nothing else there's the way it abruptly ends.
That being said, I'm still happy with the film we got! B&T are back! Older, but it's still them and it's a worth entry into the series, it has that fun/silly adventure feel.
There's a real message of family and friendship, from the way characters come together, to the way the old cast is back. It's just a nice feel good fun time, and that more than makes up for its imperfections.
Bill & Ted films were never cinematic masterpieces anyway - they rode their likability, and this film does too!
Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes!
Our Cartoon President (2018)
Well animated, poorly written.
I'd like to say upfront that I am neither a Republican or Democrat or even American and am highly critical of both parties, so my review is not biased. Anyway...
The caricatures of the politicians and news anchors and everybody else are fantastic, their facial animations are also on point, some of the voice actors as well are quite good.
If you're up-to-date with American politics you'll understand many of the references thrown out and find them amusing, whoever is writing this clearly keeps up with current events and knows the backgrounds of the people.
Which is why this show is a giant waste, because the satire is weak. There's nothing clever or insightful or remotely profound about the show. It's the kind of mockery anyone could make about these politicians. At least it's not overly obnoxious though, it's just 'meh'.
Honestly the most amusing parts of the show are the real aspects of these people that write themselves and not what the writers have brought.
Game of Thrones: The Iron Throne (2019)
A weak ending to an excellent show. Shame.
An incredible production, but so much wasted potential due to the writing. It ended not because this was where the story should end, but because the show runners didn't want to make it anymore. It is known. We didn't get a proper season, it was all crammed and rushed and concluded with this.
An outcome nobody wanted, almost nobody was satisfied with, and makes little to no sense.
The Hurt Locker (2008)
I fail to see what makes it so great
When I watched this film I wasn't sure what to expect, so I kept an open mind. After about 20 minutes it became clear that the film was not going to have a conventional plot - no antagonist, no obstacle to overcome, no crisis to solve, it was just a series of events.
But that's not necessarily bad, films like Pulp Fiction don't have such plots either and they still work fine. However, those films make up for plot with in characters and dialogue. This film has no great characters or dialogue - it is a couple of soldiers going through events.
And even that is not a bad thing; depicting what walking a mile in the shoes of a soldier might be informative, but yet again this films fails, as anyone who knows anything about this topic will tell you this film is highly inaccurate in depicting warfare.
No good plot, no interesting characters, no great dialogue and nothing to learn. Like I said, maybe I've missed something, but be that as it may the only good thing I can say about the film is that it's well produced, the actors do a good job and it's not a terrible film.
