The Vow (2012)
No redeeming qualities.
Okay I admit I did not read the book but my wife did and she kept me pretty much up with where the movie did and didn't stick with the book. If you read the book the movie will bear near zero relation to it other than the part where a woman loses her memory. Had I checked it out beforehand on some of the rating sights I would never have watched it due to the blasphemy and profanities it contains. Even without those though I found the movie to be rather boring with a weak story line and weak character development. It amazes me how Hollywood can take a good true story and turn it into near worthless fiction.
The Glades (2010)
Avoid At All Costs!!!
Actually I would have probably given this show a 7 if they didn't end it after season four leaving you with an incredible cliffhanger. I know it's just make believe but I still like to see a show come to a logical conclusion even if it's a bad one. This is just another evidence that Hollywood cares nothing for the fans of a show only what they can milk out to them. To have come back for six episodes to come to a descent conclusion probably wouldn't having broken the bank and would have been a service to the people enjoying the show. So again I say do yourself a favor and avoid this show. Of course if you enjoy reading a book only to find the last 20 pages missing then it might be for you.
Independence Day: Resurgence (2016)
Painful to watch.
This was one of the worst sequels I've ever felt obligated to sit through. Obligated because was watching with a friend who had paid for it. The first movie in my opinion was well done with great character development and very good CGI. It drew you in to the characters, their lives and interactions. This movie had basically no character development and what little existed failed to establish any connection to the characters and little to no concern for them. The CGI seemed to be CGI for its own sake and not really a part of what was suppose to be taking place. In the end this is one movie it would have been better for the "bad" guys to win utterly obliterating the "good" guys just there would be no chance of another sequel. Do yourself a favor and avoid this loser at all costs.
Noah (2014)
What a joke!
What a joke. This is one of the most pitiful representations of biblical truth that i have ever seen. It's as if the writer never set eyes on the scriptures but made it up as he/she went from stories of youth. The writer attempts to make God out as the bad guy and the fallen angels out as the protectors of truth. The fantasy is so insane so to leave one totally without context. As my wife states it is so ridiculous that even if one know nothing nothing about the Bible it would seem totally ridiculous. Hollywood apparently cares nothing about the truth as represented in the original documents of Scripture. Even if one sees the Scripture as fantasy it would only be just to at least represent it as it claims and not make it up as you go. The writers and producers are obviously bias to their own beliefs and cared nothing to follow the biblical narrative. Please don't waste your time with the inventions of those who care nothing with truth but only the desire to separate you form your money.
Dexter (2006)
Ultimately a Waste of Time
The first six seasons were great. Season seven was okay but I got the feeling it was a new and less talented team of writers or the original team was out of ideas. Season eight I think they fired the writers and just made it up as they went and when they got to the last episode they ran out of time to give it a descent ending so they just quit. In reality that probably would have been better than the ending they gave it. I came away feeling like I had wasted eight seasons and wished I could recapture that time and use it to stick bamboo under my fingernails. If you don't want to read the spoiler stop here.
The real problem was that they spend so much time looking as if they are developing the human side of Dexter and then in the end treat it as though that side doesn't exist. It was a major disappointment. If this is the way Showtime develops shows I'll not bother with their sows anymore.
Grey's Anatomy: Going, Going, Gone (2012)
Going Going Gone
The synopsis on this episode says in part, "But the life of one doctor hangs in the balance and it's clear that Seattle Grace Mercy West is not the same." One wonders if this should applied to one of the writers of this show--Shonda Rhimes. She puts me in mind of so many of the great groups billed as "one hit wonders". She put together a fairly good premise for a show and several good episodes but appears to be out of good ideas. Her only method of creating suspense appears to be the killing off of characters. Before long she may have to change the name of the show because she will probably kill off the title character as that has degraded into her only apparent method to stage some sort of drama for the show. Sad that one who could come up with such a good premise is devoid of ideas for generating suspense. With any luck the next one she will kill off will be herself and then maybe we can get some fresh plots.
Grey's Anatomy: Flight (2012)
Most Pitiful Final of a Season I've Ever Seen
The writer of this episode would probably be fired if it wasn't the creator of the show. One wonders how someone who writes such a pitiful excuse of a show ever had the imagination to dream up the show in the first place.
I've watched several seasons for the intrigue of what takes place in the operating room and that which leads up to it and what which comes after during recover. I've endured along the way Rhimes's, the creator, attempts to indoctrinate us with the supposed realization that practically every other person we bump into lives an alternate sexual lifestyle. I've also endured the immorality that apparently is the basis for Rhimes's existence. However, until this point there has actually been that level of suspense that always drew me back. After this episode not sure that will be the case.
First of all the lack of realism was incredible. She unsuccessfully tried to achieve suspense but I never once found myself on the edge of my seat. And for an episode that should have provoked a lot of emotion it was so poorly written and sequenced that I never felt attached to the characters. Makes me think she missed her first three writing days and then rushed to get something together. Then again maybe she's just out of ideas.
Wicked Attraction (2008)
Great Content, Worse Cut Video I've Ever Seen
I enjoy the factual basis of these kind of shows rather than watching made up stuff and this series delivers on that end. They pick interesting stories and weave them in a way that makes them hold you captive. With the good things I'm saying why did I only give them 3 stars? The problem is in the way the video is edited together. I'm only in the first season and if I can endure long enough maybe it will change but the choppy, static, electronic almost constant cuts and effects does nothing to add to the story being told but is a major dis-tractor and to the point that I have to turn away at times and just listen to the audio because the video is so unnerving that I can't bear to watch it. Having worked in video for several years one of the primary lessons I learned was that transitions that don't add to the story are a distraction. Whoever put this together is living proof of that.
Cloverfield (2008)
Waste of my time.
I know a lot of people loved this movie but to me it was an almost total waste. First off it took way too long for it to develop. Even once it did the action and drama were below par. And the end...did it end. So glad I got this from the library and didn't pay a cent thus the only thing wasted was time. I did notice there is suppose to be a sequel so maybe that was the whole idea. You know, kind of like a soap where they entice you to come back to see how it turns out. Unfortunately for this sleeper it did not spark my interest enough to bring me back to find out if it really does end. If the writer of this dribble has a day job I suggest he/she keep it.
