X (2022)
Just not good. So over hyped and does not deliver on any level
To borrow and expand on a line from Bachelor Party - "I like my porn with more porn in it" - and I like my horror with more horror in it.
I don't think I have every watched a more over hyped film than this. When you read all of the positive reviews it does make you wonder if they are written to just boost the film up. If not, these people clearly watched a different film.
Over 1/2 of the film is dedicated to establish the plot and character development. Note to director. This is in the horror genre and the plot is people making an adult film in Texas. Yep, that is all it takes.
When the actual horror takes place it is so underwhelming and predictable. And for all of the time the director takes to set the plot and background to make a different type of film he falls into the same pattern of excessive blood. When the first victim gets it, he has enough blood to paint the entire front of the van.
And lets get to the actual reason for the killings. A 100+ year old woman just wants to get laid. Really? No supernatural. No mysterious creatures, No grand idea. So if the husband just gives her what she wants - there is no murders and no plot??
Not going to give away all of the characters but suffice to say the really bad make up will keep you guessing for about 2 seconds. I know they were shooting the prequel at the same time but next time actually hire old people to play the old people.
Not going to give away the last "shocking twist" but wow - lazy writing. And it had 0.00 to do with the movie in any way shape or form.
One part of the questionable reviews I can agree with - this movie will stay with you for days because it will continue to go through your head how bad this film was and you actually watched it. Hopefully writing this review will remove any lasting memories of watching it.
Supai no tsuma (2020)
Slow and many unanswered questions
Could have been a really good and rare glimpse into a time the Japanese do not want to talk about. So many times the movie just drug on with little dialog or meaning. Also more questions raised than answered. Was it based on a true story? Were the films shown of the atrocities the actual films? What happened to their friend who became their interrogater? Did the husband sell out his wife so he could escape? If he didn't sell her out, who did?
Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood (2019)
Totally Boring and Pointless
I have been a Quentin fan since day 1. I have seen them all and this is by far the worst. If it was not one of his films I would have walked out.
First it appears that Quentin believes the best part of Hollywood was the 1960's. Since he could not build a time machine he decide to make a movie about making movies in the 60's. So you are watching a movie about people making movies. You get to see Leo acting out several scenes pretending to be in a movie about pretending to be in a movie.
Then you get to watch Sharon Tate go into a theater and watch herself in a movie. Wow..
These scenes remind me of the box office failure a couple years ago called Hail Caesar. I am sure there are a lot of true stories in the film that are inside jokes. Sorry, but I do not want to go to the USC Film School to figure out who they are actually making fun of.
Music has always been a big part of Quentins films which is one of the reasons I like his work. But this one borders on ridiculous. I can not tell you how much time is spent filming people driving around listening to music. And it's not chase scenes - they are literally driving through the streets of LA - riveting.
The last 10 minutes are classic Quentin. But I had to sit over 2 hours to get there. I think that last scene sticks with people because of the way we would have preferred history to have gone and most people forget how awful and just boring the rest of the film is.
Ghostbusters (2016)
Terrible Writing = Terrible Movie
I watched this on a plane and almost walked out.
This movie is so bad from start to finish. I don't know how smart people could actually think any of this movie was remotely funny.
Here is the only example you need that sums up the whole film. Near the beginning there is a scene where ever thing is quiet as you don't know what is happening. Then you hear someone eating potato chips. Character played by Kristen Wiig says "stop eating those chips" and Kate KcKinnon replies "you try to stop eating these delicious salty snacks".
Really? Sad to say that is probably the funniest line in the movie.
The attempt to make Chris Hemsworth funny might even be worse.. "We noticed you don't have lenses in your glasses". "They kept getting dirty and this solved the problem".. And then every time there is a loud noise he rubs his eyes and says "that hurts"... Not as bad as your lines do.
Even a brief appearance by Bill Murray and Ozzie can not save this film. The rejection of this film had nothing to do an all woman cast - it had everything to do with this being one of the worst films ever.
