Lady Ballers (2023)
Surprisingly good for what it is
It is not a Hollywood production so you got to evaluate this movie on what it is. When you do that it's actually an enjoying experience.
I'm surprised with the quality of acting from people that by no means are actors. Billie Rae Brandt and Rosie Seraphine Harper did great and Ben Shapiros small role where both very Ben Shapiro and exactly how you'd imagine a poorly paid basketball referee to act. The addition of the reporters having to undergo sensitivity training was hilarious.
I said you'd have to evaluate it for what it is, but to me it actually felt like a comedy. It reminded me of a mix of Pitch Perfect, American Pie and The Longest Yard.
The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Ask yourself, what did this episode bring to the main story?
It's kinda sad that they spent 1 episode on something that likely won't matter for the series as a whole.
I won't write it off completely, but I doubt Bill and Frank will play a major part in the story to come.
What did this episode really bring to the table? Would you be completely lost in the story if you decided to skip episode 3? The answer is no, the only thing you would wonder was how they got the car.
And this is my problem with this episode, it brought nothing to the story. They spent 1 episode on building a great backstory and then they kill both characters off.
They could've made this into a spin off series and it would've been amazing, it just feels like wasted potential.
Silver Linings Playbook (2012)
A good movie, but far from "book-accurate"
So as probably many of you (me included) haven't read the book that this movie is based on. Well you know what? It doesn't matter at all. The movies plot have a different ending and a different take on the storyline than the book. The movie tells a tale of a man that just got out of mental institution trying to get back with his family. His father constantly wants him to see the Eagles games with him, whereas in the book his father hardly talk to him and when he does his dancing thing the Eagles lose three games in a row in the book. Now this doesn't really matter at all, the movie and the book shouldn't be seen as the same. It is lovely based on the book, but leaves out to many essential elements to be a true "book- movie". It is like the book is Pats and his moms (which name is actually Jeanie and not Dolores) view on the story and the movie is how Pats father would (in a theoretical perspective) reply if asked about his relationship with his son. I would though recommend seeing the movie before you read the book or else you will be annoyed by the differences, whereas if you see the movie and then read the book (like me) you'd probably enjoy the different story.
As far as actors go, Jennifer Lawrence is Tiffany! Coming from seeing countless interviews before I read the book and saw the movie it shocked me how simular Jennifer Lawrence personality is to the character Tiffany in the book. Lawrence is a down to earth, non-cocky, kinda "don't give a f***" person. Reading the book she is just perfect, seeing how she talks and displays herself in interviews the crew couldn't found a better Tiffany. As for Bradley as Pat I'm not so sure, could've probably found a better personality, but lookvice he is a pretty decent depictation of Pat. De Niro great as always, really works the role as a man who is not sure whether to accept his son back, but still tries his best. Also very good depict action.
I rated it a 8, since it is as a standalone movie and not as a book depictation a great entertaining movie. If I where to rate it on how well they recreate the book as a movie it would've been maybe a 5 or even a 4, the director just allowed himself to much freedom to pick what he liked from the book and leave out what he didn't. Still a great movie.
The Dark Lurking (2009)
This is a disgrace!
First when I saw it in the movie store I was like "Wow, a new Alien vs. (something random) movie, just have to see it". Then when I started it up and saw the really f***ed up filming I almost went to get my binoculars just so I could turn them around and be a bit further away from the screen. It's like the director wanted to catch every single drop of sweat that the actors left behind. To give you guys a slight idea on how close it was, it's the type of close you only let your girl get too.
That combined with awful acting, not one can say they did good on this movie, not really easy though when the camera is pushed right up in your face. Still no excuse.
I couldn't stand to watch more than 15 minutes, so if you don't want to waste as much time as I did, just don't watch it. If you do want to watch more than I did, embrace yourself, your eyes will start begging for mercy pretty quick.
Screamers: The Hunting (2009)
This is just bad..
Don't even bother to see this, I fought my way through awful environment, bad acting as well as a obvious plot. After the first 30 minutes (if you even bother to see that far) you can just turn it off because you will be able to tell what will happen the rest of the movie.
The only person that can brag about doing a "ok" job is Gina Holden, pity the rest of the actors make it such a stinker, making Gina look bad as well. It's sad really because she could have had a bright career, but now every potential director will see that she have played in this movie and take her for granted. This movie is a curse upon the cast.
