The Last of Us: Long, Long Time (2023)
Film and series makers should learn from this
Cinematography at it's finest. The build up is so precise that it kept me glued to the screen. I didn't know this series was based on a game until I've read some of the reviews on this outstanding episode. This episode fits like a glove, in my opinion. It a beautiful way to show that there's more in a pandemic than 2 or 3 main characters and some brainless drones (soldiers)
It tells so much about people, their hopes and dreams, the despair and it subtly connects a few dots in the story line.
I can see how this episode can be upsetting to some more narrow minded people. It has a very slow (but perfect) pace, nothing is explained more than once and some things even half, two very tough men tenderly touching and loving each other, people deciding about their own life. A lot of heavy subjects for a series made in a country where most of that is still considered a taboo.
Nowadays most series are in the highest gear since most script writers don't know how to keep a story interesting otherwise. The writers of this episode made is very clear that it is still possible to achieve that through solid storytelling, although the real adrenaline junkies will never be satisfied, of course. So much is told in a mere 45 minutes. An impressive achievement.
Having a good script is one thing, having the cast to deliver that script is another, And here they had that cast.
Locke & Key (2020)
High potential, lazy writing
Many possibilities lie ahead with this idea. The series starts off strong and exiting, but instead of focusing on the magic and it's wonders, the series turns towards one unexplained evil mastermind and very one dimensional and stupid children and adults on the other side. Where the show starts as a thrilling fantasy series it finishes as a boring sentimental high school drama.
Soundtrack (2017)
Starts strong, but loses momentum
Nice how the story entwines in the first few episodes but they blow their powder too soon and then it only revolves around a very long and unrealistic selfish custody battle with People constantly not doing what they are saying, stooping down to poor soap levels. Pity. This was ment for more.
Lost in Space (2018)
Too much bad psychology
Why do they always want to complicate a good idea with boring, way too stupid, unconvincing arguments. Smart people doing stupid things for drama. It's getting so boring after two episodes. The "smart" criminal dr Smith being the most boring of all. Bring exiting threats and intergalactic challenges. Quit the predictable plot changes based on bad and stupid choices and idiotic false drama.
