Bodyguard (2011)
A salman khan movie with a soul
Just came back after watching 'BodyGuard' and I can still feel the background-score of 'Teri Meri' track.
Let me just brief you on the story. Salman is a top class trusted bodyguard working for a security agency. His next assignment is to be the bodyguard of the daughter of a man who has saved his life once. She doesn't like him initially, so she decides to play with his feelings by faking a anonymous secret admirer, but eventually fell in love with him. Will she be able to confront him and tell him the truth, will he be able to save her and how he try to find his admirer is what follows next.
Its an out and out love story with the good mix of action and comic reliefs, and director has managed to a good job in establishing the conflict and constraints between the characters and the story. I was completely hooked up with the story, didn't get bored for a second and just couldn't predict the end of the movie, so kudos to the director for such good story-telling. Songs are good, 'I love you' is choreographed well with great build up to it, spell-binding 'Teri Meri' is easily the peak of the cinematography in bollywood, and all other songs looks great too. Needless to say, action in this movie is nothing less than Salman's previous movies like Dabaangg and Wanted.
Speaking of performances, its easily Salman's most intense performance in a while. He is morally unshakable totally committed to his duties, but that doesn't mean that he always has stereo-typical stone cold silence on this face. He easily plays ruthless bodyguard to Polite and committed to his master, vulnerable to his admirer and funny with other servants of the house. Don't want to reveal too much about Kareena's role in the movie, her character evolves through out the story, and she performs it with such an ease.
Unlike most salman movies i have enjoyed in the past, this one has soul and an world of its own. To be honest,Salman's presence is biggest reason to why i have enjoyed this so much. He certainly has a lot of charisma and ability to engage you effortlessly. Go for it, you won't regret it, regardless of whether you are salman's fan or not.
Ready (2011)
Very funny stress-buster
I'll keep this very simple. If you are looking for intelligent, social-issues based, self-interrogative, catharsis or exploratory cinema, then stay the hell away from this movie. It is not made for elite people like you, who watch every movie as if they have to give a certification based on that movie or they have to answer the press-conference questions on that movie.
If you are looking a movie that can take you into the world of its own, having a simple story, lots of laughter, and with a happy ending, then this is a movie for you. Don't miss it. Its the stress-buster you need.
Asin looks gud and her performance is top-notch, at least better than what she did in Gajini. Paresh rawal is ever dependable. Sudesh lehri has almost stolen the scenes in which he is present, even if that scene has Salman and Asin in them. Mahesh manjrekar and his two brothers (in the movie), have given good cameos. Above all, its Salman who anchors the movie with his ever so stunning screen presence and his ability to hold your attention.
Humour in the movie is sweet and family-friendly and not raunchy. Its my kind of movie and I enjoyed it.
Yamla Pagla Deewana (2011)
Its a fun ride
Sunny Deol, an NRI settled in Canada, is searching for his father (dharamendra) and his younger brother (bobby deol) for a long time, without any success. His search finally gets a new hope when he gets to know that a person with similar face and traits has defrauded a visitor to his house. He lands in Banaras India to get them back. His father refuses to acknowledge him as his son but his younger brother (who still doesn't know that they are brothers) persuade him to keep Sunny, thinking that his muscular prowess will help them in being more successful. Will Sunny gets his father to acknowledge him and how, is what follows.
Apparently, the story is same old re-union types, but I enjoyed it. Movie makes no attempt to make sense, or to be logical, which was refreshing. First half is predictable, but still enjoyable at the same time. Second half is NOT exactly predictable except for the climax, and is the best part of the movie.
Kulraj Randhawa looks absolutely stunning. Sunny Deol is the most lovable character in the movie, sets the screen on fire whenever he comes there. Its a pleasure to see Dharmji on screen again, fighting and dancing. Chemistry of Dharam and Sunny is unmatchable and so are the scenes with Anupam Kher. Anupam Kher is brilliant. He easily anchors most of the scenes he is in. Mukul dev surprises and makes me smile whenever he is on screen. Bobby deol has a lot of on-screen time in this movie. He doesn't exactly disappoints, but is overshadowed. He plays his part honestly.
Movie doesn't have any raunchy or slapstick humor. Humor comes from the story and characters. Its a movie made with a lot of love and care, and it reflects on the screen. There is no need to carry or use your brain for this movie, its the kind of movie I like. Its a movie you will find hard not to enjoy.
