American Rust (2021)
Slow pace but shockingly accurate
I actually live in one of the small towns mentioned the show so i have first hand experience on the veracity of the subject matter. On episode six of the show right now and while the pace is slow I'm genuinely engrossed in the subject matter, the acting and the writing.
The opioid epidemic that the show uses as it's main thread is painfully accurate and the depth that people's live intertwine in a small town are very well personified. Jeff Daniel's portrait is so spot on, and is just what makes him so captivating. The other actors are really subtly shining. Maura Tierney is good and it's nice to see older actors used for proper casting.
Survive (2022)
Why bother?
This movie was absolute nonsense. While the visuals were quite stunning, and the acting was good, but significantly melodramatic; the writing and directing was absolutely baffling. It may have made more sense when it was a 12 part mini-series but the idea of sitting through 12 hours when I was already bored out of my mind by a 2 hour movie was simply torturous.
The logical holes in this movie were egregious also. If they had just stayed put when the plane crashed they would have been fine. I guess that wouldnt have made much of a movie, but the decision defied logic. The whole movie seemed like it was rushing itself and I kept asking myself why are they in such a hurry. Movie gotta movie, I guess.
Vendetta (2022)
What was this movie even about?
I have so many questions...
Who was the protagonist?
They never explained who he was other than that he had a family
Why was he a bad ass?
Ok, so he was a Marine... there are lots of jobs in the USMC. What did he do?
What did the Bad Guys do?
Other than say bad guy stuff, they never actually did any thing bad.
What made the rest of the cast "Good"?
Thomas Jane was an arms dealer and Mike Tyson (from what i could tell) ran a Chop Shop.
Why did the gang go after William Duncan?
This was never explained at all. Random acts of teenage-girl-murder as an intitation seems well... just stupid.
What was with the cops?
All you have to do is go to the Detective working your muder case and ask "Hey, mind if I finish murdering the guys I want to murder" and hell just be like "K, sounds good"?
Im am confidently dumber for having watched this.
Heels (2021)
Surprisingly Impressed
While Im not a wrestling fan the righting, storytelling , acting and cinematography of this show really engrossed me and Im pretty well hooked. Definitely worth the watch!
Jolt (2021)
Just why?
I think the most baffling thing about this movie is "How so much talent could make something so bad?"
Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021)
Can we talk about the mustaches for a minute...
I admit I only watched half the movie, but once the flash-back mustaches were a thing, I was both fascinated and mortified. This is whatvwere doing now, eh?
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Well... It answers one MAJOR question.
What will Nic Cage Do for a paycheck. I have to say... 2 hours of punching stuffed animals is a pretty impressive feat for a professional actor.
A Teacher (2020)
Not really the genre Id go for but found it very provacative.
As I said in the title, Its not the kind of show Id normally indulge in, but I gotta say between the two protagonists, the actors portraying them, the writing, editing and pacing of the show I found it very gratifying.
Frontier (2016)
Great casting, GREAT sets and wardrobe... Where is the writing?
Having now watched all 3 season; The show sets out to explore often overlooked history and with the GORGEOUS locations and sets, they are the most intriguing characters. The acting feels like true craftsmen trying to work with really sub-standard tools. The writing and editing are just baffling at times. Often feeling non-nonsensical, rushed or... like they were just making the story up as they go. If you just watch it on mute, It looks very impressive, but the dialogue and story is just shockingly sub-par when compared to the visuals.
