Star Trek: Picard (2020)
S3E4 when it all comes together
Enduring through the many dud spin-offs -- all universally mediocre -- Picard S3E4 is the single episode in the long array of spin-off disasters when I felt the old Star Trek magic. It took all the old geezers reverting to the old concept of familiar horizons and familiar terrors evoking the high Starfleet principles, to deliver the old awe. Hopefully, here onwards, we can stay the course. Number One was phenomenal as an actor and director in this episode. He does a lot of the heavy lifting. But they all do their bit.
The established storyline gives one comfort that the guardrails are in place. The crew -- perhaps this needs to be emphasized -- is one that we can comfortable bond/empathize with in ways that made those old seasons flow by effortlessly/delightfully.
