Morbius (2022)
Slow Pace, Weak Ending, But It's A Marvel Movie, So It's A Must See!!!
So...the film isn't so slow that you'll want to turn it off, but it does take a while to get moving. And seeing Matt Smith stripped down was a bit Cringe for me.
I will say, adding the makeup onto Matt Smith made him look a bit more normal?? Maybe that's just me. Apparently my review is too short, so I'll have to add a bit of an explanation. M. S. Has no eyebrows. Why the makeup folks in every show he's played in don't shade them in a bit has always perplexed me. That with his oddly far-spaced eyes give him an alien look. Shrug.
But I kind of hated the ending. Not going to give it away. I just thought it could have either been wrapped up better, or left on an actual cliff-hanger. As it was: LAME!!!
Thank you for your attention.
In the Shadow of the Moon (2019)
The Message and the Preaching-Ugh!!!
What starts out as a mildly interesting cop show ends as a comment on our founding fathers. The preachy Mad Scientist dude who insists Hooded Girl must kill those random folks to save the future makes a mild case to kooky Hermit Cop to spare her life. Then the flashes to us (the 4th wall/audience) show the stuff "convincing" us why these particular victims: books about Thomas Jefferson! George Washington! American History!! Etc etc. Yeah, some of the folks were nuts, but most people interested in history? Random party girl at a disco? Ahh. Unabridged, non-fantasized history. And the "Privileged". Got it.
Whatever. Story was ok outside of this. Seems like a Terminator tweek with less polish and buy-in from the actors.
But Michael C. Hall! He shone in his tiny roll, especially the Philly accent!! His first line sounded spot on!!! Props to you, man!!! It is such a subtle nuance to speech which 99.9% of actors don't bother to affect, and honestly, probably don't hear.
Also I feel the abrupted placenta situation was written badly; "Hey! Push!!" Instead of "Surgery!!!, now!!!"
I apologize for rant. I'd watch for Michel C. Hall's accent. But you needn't watch entire film.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Coming of Age (1988)
Since when did Robert Ito become Chinese?
While watching this, or re-watching this, i recognized Robert Ito as someone who seemed sooooo familiar. Ahhh Robert Ito, from Quincy!!! Then I thought, wait, why does he have this heavy accent?
So I've found, after much hunting, ye olde Quincy episodes on the Tube. Yup, as Canadian as the toque is long.
So why, in future Pangaea Earth-governed dystopia, does he present with this oddball, nonsensical accent? So cringe. I'm guessing producers suggested it.
Cypher (2021)
A Few Gems Amongst Some Terrible Actors
So the name sounds intriguing: Cypher!!! Wow! Must be great!!
But then the plodding begins. After an opening of some explosions and interest, a lot of meandering takes place which could easily be covered in a ninety minute movie, if not a one hour episode of some FBI show.
-Too much time spent on truly God-awful boo-hooing from dreadful child actress.
-Any time spent looking at Rees. Watching her reminds me of that one skit by Catherine Tate, in which she portrays an American actress with massively ballooned lips after filler injection. The look is so bad, co-star cannot bear to kiss her. Rees' lips, and over-acting are a spot-on recreation of C. T.'s character!
-Any of the "WARP" ("W-A-R-P...sounds like an abbreviation for something!") Squad, who seem like folks who get equal time playing demons in any supernatural shows on SYFY, the WB, basically any Canadian show.
-And plenty of other silly procedural holes pretty common to TV crime shows so why bother.
The main dude Mark Dingle-Wall seemed alright. He started out sounding kind of Oklahoma/Western enough that I looked him up online, only to find out he was Australian. Yet about two episodes in, he morphed into surfer dude. Your guess, mate.
Positives? I thought John J. Jordan was a diamond amongst pebbles. I was also glad to see Brian Krause, though I'll always see him as a Whitelighter, har. And I thought evil lady Jaclyn Hales was also doing a great job working hard with a crappy script.
So I hope there are no real spoilers here. Just some personal if brutal observations about a show which, though not great, is kind of hard to stop watching once started-rather like a train wreck.
Doom: Annihilation (2019)
I Can't Believe It's Not Canadian...
...Or SYFY Channel. This was actually made in the US. But bad enough not to be.
I really don't understand why this film was even made.
