Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)
The first movie was better
The first movie was quite original, epic, emotional and to be honest by far the better movie than this sequel. In my opinion the story of the first movie was somehow better and more intimate without tons of characters. Instead, It focused on several characters, including the villain, and they were all perfectly developed as 3 dimensional. We had an incredibly inspiring story (Leap of fate) and the tone was more serious. Moreover, we actually had a perfect ending and overall the movie was an absolute blast from start to finish. As I already mentioned, the problem of the sequel is that I feel the story is all over the place. It is actually a good simple story with plenty of potential, but the focus is deprived due to hundreds of other characters. The cinematography and the visuals on the other hand are insane and out of this world, just mesmerizing. However, same thing happened with Avatar 2 - amazing visuals, but the actual movie is not a masterpiece as the reviews are saying. When you think for a sequel in a franchise, you recall that there are movies like Terminator 2, Empire Strikes Back, Infinity War, The Dark Knight or Spider-man 2. Across the spider-verse isn't any of these movies. For instance, you can't compare the not so exiting cliffhanger of across the spider-verse with the ending of Infinity War. Maybe they should have spent more time establishing the villain of the story and we could have seen an epic conflict with Miguel Spider-Man 99 and Miles instead of the ending we got. I mean we should have gotten an ending similar to Infinity War or Empire Strikes back when Luke confronted Vader. They had all the potential there but couldn't use it perfectly. I hope that in the third part they will stick to the serious tone instead of babies, because I felt that the first movie was more mature and the second more childish. The plot of Miles being a "Mistake" is just too perfect to be overshadowed by introducing hundreds of characters with plenty of humor. I just want the more serious, dark and profound movie and I still hope that the third one will deliver it just like the original masterpiece.
Scream VI (2023)
Weak ending transforms into a week movie
I went to the theater, because I had read the reviews here and they really succeeded to fool me.
I believe that everything this movie needed to become great was only a good ending. Unfortunately, the ending twist was poorly written and as a result of that nothing made any sense throughout the movie. We are all very aware that nothing can top the original, but at least they needed to try a lot better. I won't spoil anything, just think about the ending if it makes any sense to you, as for me it creates plenty of plot holes and I expected something more satisfying instead of what we got.
There is more action this time and the scene with Gale in her apartment was decent. She remainded me of Sarah Connor and Ripley.
Lastly, I don't know why, but this time every character feels like a child of Chuck Norris, or the The Terminator from the first movie when Kyle Reese explained to Sarah that he will not stop ever, until she is dead. Everybody is stabbed, deadly wounded, shot, but no.. the plot compels them to stay alive no matter what.
The Boys: Herogasm (2022)
Soldier boy
I was out of patience to watch this episode due to the high score of 9.8, and I was completely satisfied once I finished it. Everybody here is rightfully praising Homelander and Butcher and that's why I'm going to emphasize Soldier Boy.
Several weeks before I was a little bit sceptical that Soldier Boy was going to be another secondary villain like Stormfront and for this particular episode a lot of people, including me, expected to have some herogasm with Homelander. I'm glad that didn't happen and the writers did justice to Soldier Boy, who now is a super emphatetic and even a tragic character, someone we can sympathize. He even works as an Anti-hero with huge potential and has even better presence on screen than Chris Evans' Captain America. For me, Jensen Ackles is the new highlight of the season and his story reminds me of the story of Joe Kinnaman in "Altered Carbon" after he was waken up.
The final fight was beyond epic and intense and set the bar pretty high for the final episodes. After this episode, I can truly say that the third season has the potential to become one of the greatest of all time, but we will find out after two weeks.
Invincible: Where I Really Come From (2021)
On Par with Empire Strikes Back!
I didn't know anything about this comic book until a week ago and so far the show is terrifying. I've only witnessed this level of gore in Mortal Kombat, but not in such catastrophic proportions as in "Invincible". The villain is a three dimensional and pretty much written as the iconic Darth Vader, and this final episode reminds me of "The Empire Strikes Back". Maybe this is what could have happened in Man of Steel had it been Rated R.
I'm not aware of the comics and I won't read them in order to avoid spoilers, but I only hope that we"ll happen to see a redemption arc like in "Return of the Jedi". I'm looking forward to seeing the next season!
The Boys: Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker (2020)
Wasted opportunity
I think that the last episode 06 was mind blowing and incredibly set up the stakes for the final two episodes. As a result of that, I expected something epic with this episode, yet now I'm a little bit disappointed with what we could have had, but haven't happened. Mostly I'm pissed of with what they did with Lamplighter, as I really liked his redemption during the end of the last episode. Sadly, now he was just eradicated from the show in the worst way possible, instead of dying heroically while fighting Black Noir alongside with Starlight. In my opinion, that would have been an epic and brutal fight especially taking into consideration the powers these three possess. Moreover, I thought that Maeve would reveal the video to The Deep and then recruits him in her vendetta against Homelander.
Now it's hard to imagine how they will bring the epic conclusion to the season that we all anticipate, since there is only one hour left for so much to occur. Nonetheless, I really hope that The Boys will team up with Maeve and they really need to pull it off right.
Bad Boys for Life (2020)
The year starts with an epic experience!
I was really surprised that I had the chance to watch the movie yesterday, which wasn't my intention at all, but my friends wanted to give it a chance .
First of all, the trailer couldn't hype me for the movie coupled with the abscence of Michael Bay, who actually has a cameo along with other stars from the second movie. Yet, it turned out unexpectedly great. I won't try to hype people unnecessarily and as a result of that someone to end up dissatisfied. However, if you want plenty of humour and action just to have fun for two hours, then you won't be disappointed. Again we have the hard R raiting, which is something that contributes a lot to the movie with bloody scenes and deadpool like humour. If I have to compare it to other movies, it is far better than the soulless "Hobbs and Shaw", who had 200 million budget and nothing special to deliver. If you are a fan of 21-22 Jump Street, then you will experience the same ride. Only this time we have a decent villain with pretty good twist, which solely set up the tension for an epic ending, reminding me of the ending of Beowulf, where they were pretty hight stakes. I even felt a vibe of the ending of "Under The Red Hood" , but the movie itself (Bad Boys) wasn't so dark, disturbing nor deep to deliver such conclusion with the potential the villain had. Don't get me wrong, it didn't reach the same level of those movies I've mentioned, but it was only because of the comedy settled tone of the whole movie.
I won't go further in more details, but if you want to escape your stressful atmosphere, the third part of the franchise is packed with non stop comedy and action. Likewise, the cast is great and so the new additions. Both Martin Lawrence and Will Smith stole the show and if a good, yet less better movie Ride Along menaged to earn about 140 millions domestic gross, then Bad Boys will become a hit this month if people are still nostalgic about it and attend to see it.
