Boris and the Bomb (2019)
High-end low-budget
For a microbudget movie, there's a lot going on. The plot of Boris and the Bomb gets very complex. At the center is a lovable loser just trying to do the right thing, but he gets mixed up in some bizarre intrigue that spans generations. I'll admit I was a little lost for some of it, but considering the depth of the project, I'm impressed with the overall result.
Twenty Twenty-Four (2016)
Did he just stop writing?
Cut the last 25 minutes. Replace it with an ending better than "it was all a dream...OR WAS IT??" Because that's as close to a resolution as you'll get here.
As a long time fan of science fiction I enjoy speculating which trope will turn out to explain the story, and how the filmmaker will add something to the trope to make it a little original.
Absolute failure to do that here. There is no reliable narrator. Is he nuts? Is it an alien? Is he part of the computer? Is it a simulation gone wrong? Or gone right? Who knows? Who cares? Not the filmmakers, apparently.
Red herrings abound. The door? The lizard-alien glimpsed from behind? The power failure? Who cares? None of it points to resolution.
Bad science fiction. Decent thriller, if you don't need a story to go with your thrills.
