The Roads Not Taken (2020)
Captivating from beginning to End
This film truly brings such a heartfelt feeling as the story takes on what is seems to be a man living in multiple lives. There is no doubt Javier shows one of his many and fine performances to date. Along with Elle Fanning who just proves in each of her films that she is by far the best of her generation.
If one likes a movie that doesn't need a like of dialog then this film is just for you. The music and cinema photography is really pulls the viewer in and just wanting to know more and more as it unfolds. A story of unconditional love, life and finding where one belongs, a little gem not to miss out on.
Mary Shelley (2017)
Watch it for Elle Fanning
I for one want to say that Elle Fanning never seems to stop amazing me with her huge talent of acting. She clearly knows how to pull a viewer in, and making you feel those emotions you need to feel for her character(s). And her as Mary Shelly truly is one of those characters.
I never actually knew myself that Frankenstein actually was written by a female so knowing this true fact made me so glued to wanting to see this film. Though the story is pretty documentary told than scary, the actors are what truly bring you in and make you forget that. I loved how the story was really about woman empowerment and how it is what beats the odds of everything. So many times the woman were seen as just a "thing" and something that was just to be seen as a "pet". But not only was Mary a strong woman who believed the true value of ones own dreams and beliefs (thanks to the amazing talent of Elle Fanning in showing that) it was that inner power in her that made her a success and creating the most amazing stories of all time. There was also a deep connection of that sister bond between Mary and her sister Claire that made the story just as strong and not many films really carry that much nowadays. In general this story covers a lot of topics such as family connections, lovers, betrayal, loss, forgiveness and learning to follow ones heart and dreams.
But that leads to again on what Elle Fanning delivers to the screen...I only expect great things coming from this rising star who has so much potential through all she does. And if one does not like this kind of genre of a film, see it for Elle Fanning, she won't disappoint you.
All the Bright Places (2020)
Almost full brightness of a film
I really wanted to give this film a 10 but I will say this film did mess up a tad in some areas (that is if one has read the book).
I truly loved this story as a book, it's so raw and intense with emotion that truly gets you soaked up into all the events and characters. I read this book within a day and cried my eyes out. When I heard about the film I was both excited and both anxious. Just cause knowing I wanted it to be true to the book, but like in all films they do end up changing things which kinda bothers me. So I had to see this as a own adaption and it's own partake for this film (especially since Jennifer Niven the author of the book did help with the film). Only to see quite a few scenes were mixed up like the tree scene, the character of Roamer and how he was kind of combined with Ryan Cross and the whole interaction thing with Violet getting to know him through Instagram instead of Facebook to name a few flaws.
BUT I want to say also that Elle Fanning really shined through this film as Violet and pretty much stole the film. Her acting range truly shined, she can make you feel in the moment and feel that sense of anger, sadness, joy and fear when she expresses it. I truly felt Violet through her the whole film and I couldn't say anything negative about her.
For Finch I will admit his character was truly twisted in a sort. Only because he was described very differently from the book to film. Justice Smith still did a great job and I'm sure a lot of book fans are disappointed in what Finch came to look like on screen. HOWEVER...Justice still did a great job in what his character was all about. I believe it's important to give actors a chance even though they are described so differently. A big flaw to some people but I will not be the one to judge on that.
As far as chemistry goes for the two main leads...I surely saw that between Elle and Justice's characters. They complimented each other on so many scenes and you could feel the love they had for each other when those passionate moments came. Which makes it harder to watch in the end when Finch strays away.
Overall this film seen separate from the book was really well done if you don't compare it to the book. Yes I honestly wish once again there were things that the book had that the book didn't. But we can't always have exactly what we want, it still showed the grief, struggles passion and vital quotes that needed to be said. Along with well done performance from Elle Fanning who truly is coming through her acting ability (and singing which she has done in the past) and beyond. That this film was a treasure to watch in it's own way. "Ultra-Violet and Freak Finch" still managed to hold that brightness in this film even in the dark moments and differences based off a book adaption.
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
Amazing...simply AMAZING film!
There are honestly no words on what I can say about this film, it's such a well packed film with amazing graphics, emotions and above all else ACTION! Idk if there is any Manga/Anime film that has been out on screen, but if Alita is the first one, then well it's off to an awesome start for it's industry. Alita brings so much tender moments where you can't help yourself to feel and encourage this young woman (aka cyborg).
I don't want to say much just because I don't want to spoil anything. But I will say this film is a MUST SEE! If not for the story behind it then do it for the sound effects and graphics. I for sure hope there will be more films for this character for it definitely has to have a continuation. Other than that well done of a performance by everything it had in it and may we hopefully see soon The Battle Angel rise again! <3
Bumblebee (2018)
Gotta love the "Love Bug"
This movie was highly to do on my watch list to see as soon as it came out. I cannot tell you how pleased I am with how the film told it's story. Seeing the other Transformers movies I always wondered if there was going to be a film that would tell exactly how Bumblebee came to earth and why. Not only did it do that but it gave a more depth story and you could not wish for anything more to love that VW Beetle more. His heart, humor, charm and determination sailed through the story. And everything else that went along with it did a beautiful job telling the story of how it all started. I highly recommend this film to anyone who may not only love the Transformers franchise but anyone who just needs a feel good movie and some action. One thing I will say though...can't help but love that Bee. <3
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
"Earth's mightest heroes" come together making epic film
I just wanted to write a review on a film that will forever remain so special to me maybe mostly because of today....for we have lost a man who started this franchise from the beginning: Stan Lee.
Stan Lee had a vision, to create characters that could entertain young and old worldwide and give a sense of hope to the world. Over the years his characters came to life on screen from Iron Man, Spiderman, Captain America, Thor, The Hulk and many more. They all served a purpose in their own stories and yet they all connected where this film comes to place. A film that translated them ALL together in one to stop maybe one of the strongest villains around.
Now I don't want to say any spoilers to this film, but I will say that seeing all these characters in one film was amazing. Each one stayed true to their characters and you could feel the excitement when each one took their scenes. For everyone who ever loved a superhero and see them work together...THIS FILM HAS THAT! And it's all because of Stan Lee and his passion for them all. I thank him for his imprint on this world and how I can look back on this film and see that he left this earth where all his mightest heroes came together to make an exceptional adventure and memories to never forget.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)
Great finish to a great series <3
I didn't hesitate to see this movie the day it came out. From being a fan of the books and the films I couldn't wait till the day came to see the closure. And yet I was so filled with anxiety and hoping they would patch things up from what was not done right in The Scorch Trials. However I am pleased to say this final chapter did NOT disappoint me. From sitting at the edge of my seat to feeling all the emotions one could have since following these characters for so long left be spellbinding.
The acting was top notch, there was action non stop, the intensity was constantly there and so much more. I truly can't say enough how grateful I am to have known this series and having it all come to an end. It's both very bittersweet of a feeling and hard to see it go. But may it remain in our hearts and minds as the years go by and see that The Maze Runner truly finished with a well deserve and respectful ending. Thank you Wes Ball and James Dashner for making a story and film(s) come to life. I for one and truly grateful for the memories that it all brought me. "Long live the Gladers!"
Beauty and the Beast (2017)
Reliving a childhood classic film
My first thought of a real life film Beauty and the Beast I thought disaster was gonna brew. I have been disappointed before with remakes especially to Disney classics. And hearing that Emma Watson was gonna play the lead I was like "No, no! Please no" She's Hermione Granger from Harry Potter and nothing more. So it was pretty intense to see the social media talk about it and hear their own opinions. But when the first photo came out for Emma as "Belle" I was blown away and my thoughts changed to hopefulness. As time came to see the trailers I braced myself yet again. "Would they stay true to the Disney classic or totally take it on a opposite roller coaster?" When it came out I was totally moved and in tears of joy. They did everything as they possibly could to make it real, and true to the Disney version. Little changes happened yes, like one or two songs, but they were all beautifully done and made for great reasons. All casting was beautifully done, music was perfect and it left me feeling like a child again.
I think that is what is so important. When we love something we grow up with all we want is to relive those days and moments, to feel inspired and hopeful. To me that is what Beauty and The Beast did for me and I wouldn't change anything. Animated or not it still brought that magic in me once again. All I can say now is please bring more like this onto the screen!
Gold Diggers: The Secret of Bear Mountain (1995)
Friendship is worth fighting for!!
I have grown to love this film and who have seen this film a zillion times. This movie is based on what friendship really means.
The film takes place back in 1980 where Beth Easton(played by Christina Ricci) moves to a small town up north with her mother. There she meets the towns "trouble maker" Jody Salerno(played by Anna Chlumsky) who is right at home in the woods surrounding her. Eventually Beth finds out from the towns people that Jody is impossible to become friends and to not be trusted. Beth somehow sees behind this and how she could be the link to finding adventure. Together they discover a legendary women who possibly hid gold in a cave called Bear Mountain. With there friendship growing more as they trace the steps in finding the gold there becomes a set back.
Jody who is symbolized as the bad girl in town is revealed as the girl who is a victim of child abuse from her mom's alcoholic boyfriend. And with an incident that leads Jody no choice to leave the town. Beth pleads to Jody to just come out and tell the truth. But with a plan that is set becomes to change again to where Jody has to save Beth from drowning who is stuck underneath a rock and a tide that's fast approaching. It's a race between time for Jody to stop thinking of herself and to go the extra mile for her friend. Jody does come through for Beth, but soon it is Beth who is to return the favor and show the towns people that Jody is not who they all think she is.
With a stash of gold waiting to be found it's a race of finding that true friend who will go through that extra mile. And realizing that sometimes "Some Friendships are worth a fortune!!"
