Jongmalui Babo (2024)
This is a drama that is too heavy for many
If you gave up after one episode, because you didn't understand it, you gave up too early. That said. This is not action, it's not something to entertain you. This is a story about those waiting for their last days on earth. In all its truthful and horrible glory. People that are bad, will become worse. Those who are rich, will pay their way out or at least try. Those who are just normal people, are caught in the middle, abandoned. They try to find joy and safety, but it isn't easy.
This was not a drama I could binge watch. It took a lot of energy. I had plans to finish it the weekend it came out, but I couldn't. But little by little, I came to the end. And I liked it. Yoo Ah In and Ahn Eun Jin did a great job. It was sad to see Yoo Ah In in what might be his last role. I just wanted to savour it. I am so glad they didn't edit him completely out!
And it's sad to see all the people rating this drama low, just because he did drugs. It's also sad to see that so many gives this a low score, when they didn't finish it. Specially this who didn't finish the first episode and gave it a 1. I respect those who didn't like it, and I can understand why. This is NOT a drama for everyone. But if you think you will understand everything at once, when there is 12 episodes, you have given up way too early.
What's Love Got to Do with It? (2022)
Refreshing
I have always loved romantic movies, but I have grown tired of the mass produced, shallow movies that Hollywood have been spewing out lately. When I stumbled about this British movie on a rainy autumn afternoon, I thought "why not?". And I wasn't disappointed.
What I liked about it? First of all, even though I had a suspicion about the direction of the plot, they kept me wondering how it would end. And it touched upon questions about love and family on a deeper level than most of these films usually do. But it didn't delve in too deep, snf therefore it didn't lose its entertainment factor. It made me smile, and even tear up for a second. At some points, the movie touched upon a few questions I have been having lately, which made it feel a bit personal.
Tre nøtter til Askepott (2021)
A very enjoyable Norwegian Movie!
As a Norwegian, knowing both the set and the horses, I really felt the Norwegian flavour. I loved the precise humour and the characters. I felt that Cinderella really got a Norwegian version.
As many others, I love the Czech version. And I actually liked that you could see it was a remake of that story, and not the Disney version. Of those two, and the Grimm version, I feel that the Czech version is the easiest to adapt into a Norwegian movie, and not having to change too much.
Well done by Astrid S, she had a great acting debut, and Cengiz is charming as always. The horses Iver, Holteblå and Kristian Svart were a perfect fit for the movie!
Blind (2022)
This drama keeps you blinded most of the way
I was just checking if I could find this somewhere, with English subtitles, and after less than 60 seconds I needed more.
I just love when I have to guess, and the truth is kept hidden for a very long time. Though I guessed one of the killers fairly early, but then again, almost everyone has visited my suspect list once or thrice! And that kept this drama so exciting.
Well played, Taecyon once again showed us that he is a good actor, and he did a good job here as well. I loved the dark setting, the ambience of it all. It kept me really waiting for new episodes. This was really a thriller after my taste.
Askeladden: I Dovregubbens hall (2017)
Great Norwegian Folklore
I don't usually write reviews, but after reading a lot of them here, I really felt like it. This movie is based on Norwegian folklores and fairytales. Askeladden is not inspired by Lord of the Rings. Askeladden came first, told through generations after generations by the fireplace at night, until the stories was written down in the 18th Century. Germany had Brothers Grimm, Norwegians had Asbjørnsen & Moe.
I really loved this story! It was a good adaptation of Askeladden. It's a family movie, and you could really feel the essence of Norway come out of the television. Someone mentioned lost in translation, and I do believe that watching a dubbed or subbed version will effect the experience. There are sayings said in rhymes, that we use a lot and won't work well translated. Espen Askeladd and the things he does in the movie, well he does these things. Picks up useless things, that later ends up not being useless. The only difference is that he always wins the Princess in the end.
