Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
Constricted by its own universe!!
Damn!!! It Was such a great start and had all the potential for a great series... Sadly it really suffers by limitations in which it can't expand beyond its established universe. I'm never a fan of shows or movies that fill gaps in a timeline and this unfortunately gets lost in really having to drag out a single arc that ultimately has no real surprises or impact in a much larger story. The time jumps very quickly lose there edge and don't have any cohesion after 8 episodes and even if the pay off is epic it's simply not worth the build up. I find myself wanting this show to jump to something exciting yet it just crawls around each episode then we can a monster. I will say the cgi in my view has been great and some of the scenes in the first few episodes really had it humming along. Hopefully the last couple of episodes can't surprise me in some way but as I mentioned these timeline filler shows just fail to have any substantial impact in the current universe.
Chucky (2021)
For me it's great 8/9 on majority episodes.
Reviews they are funny thing. Always going to be mixed bag of opinions. This is probably the best adaptation since Hannibal, those of you were able to appreciate the unique approach and footprint this adaptation offered will undoubtedly enjoy Chucky. All the high end platforms with educated entrainment reviewers will tell you the same thing. But the IMDb crowd will always have its fools. Watch an episode go from there.
Ted Lasso: Beard After Hours (2021)
One of the best filler episodes
Fillers are such a thing now days that some show actually find their strongest episodes to come from this approach. Sadly most do not and often go down as the worst of the entire series... well according IMDb average score..
Have to say this is a great episode on so many aspects.. anyone who enjoys quality entertainment and writing will absolutely agree.
Look forward to some sports clinching moments.. It's unfortunately not played enough in this season.. so far. Still awesome show.
Loki: For All Time. Always. (2021)
Yes Marvel yes!!!!!
Guess who's back.... Back again. After 2 very average series a midway drag in this series and a pretty unsatisfactory recent movie drop the MCU has not only redeemed itself with this epic season finale/phase 4 bombshell but has seriously given its fans an incredible breath of much needed air... We love you KF and team.. Thank you.
Rick and Morty: A Rickconvenient Mort (2021)
A new low for an amazing show.
There is usually one each season but sadly this is a new low. I'm really hoping that upcoming evil morty episode is so good that they decided to sprinkle some weaker episodes around it. Remembering they have 20-30 episodes and stories currently in production. They have far from lost me but the first episode sucked and this one is just a new low bar. Bring on next episode.
Loki (2021)
After 2 episodes. Disney plus and the MCU continue to underwhelm us.....
I really am not sure if there own red tape had backed them into this corner. But it's 0-3 so far and what makes it worse is build up of excitement created by all shows creativity and set up but all ultimately failing in the execution when it mattered most.. I remember the feeling of huge anticipation at the mid point of Wanda and then the Same with Falcon.... So far it feels like all the same again with Disney/mcu... I really really hope I eat my words... At this point(episode 2) it feels like this incredibly talented writing team who have been publicly known as being the "brains behind Rick and Morty" ect are writing a script for animation and Rick rather then Loki and MCU.. Let's just hope they prove us wrong starting next week.
Lovecraft Country: Meet Me in Daegu (2020)
Some people should not watch tv..
Every time an extremely rare masterpiece episode of television is aired for those of us which an actual clue and appreciation for the art there are always those who just negatively review for reasons almost unbeknown to my rationale and understanding. If this isn't anything but a 10 for you maybe just watch this new show it's called the mirror. Amazing episode straight in the list of 2020 best episodes so far. I'm about to watch it again been so many months between these entertainment drinks.
Central Park (2020)
Most catchiest tunes in a musical setting since the 2011 muppets
Ok seriously I do not get into musicals can't do LaLa land level I do love music however and have a special place in my heart for muppets 2011 movie caliber of songs and some of these tunes from the early 2 episodes really do rival it. In what has been a silver screen drought a few scattered quality eps this has really hit home for me somehow.. I have found myself watching every afternoon when coming home from work. I will be surprised if they keep it at the his level but for the wonderful start I got be a 9 and worthy review
Lost (2004)
People who don't get this show is a mirror of how far gone we are as humans.
Pretty much when I meet someone who hates on Lost or didn't even finish it because there connection to any true substance has been infected with societies poisoning I basically just put that person in a place of needing to grow in my mind. For those of you (whom are plenty) who know this show is the absolute pinnacle of television largely thanks to the brilliant television craftsman that is Damon Lindelof just thank you all for existing. Every single character is perfectly cast and directed the musical score alone by Michael Giacchino will fill you goosebumps at every turn. The only show really that holds a candle is The Leftovers.
Westworld: Genre (2020)
A formula refined and a new bar has been set for Westworld
Ok so first of all I know quality entertainment when I see it and there is no doubting the brilliant level this episode goes to. It has that masterclass level of execution rarely found. I really sensed a few pages out of Lindelof's book with perfectly selected scores of music some fresh and some alternative classics. the best episode of television in 2020 so far... period.
