Bigfoot (2012 TV Movie)
8/10
Bigfoot is a roller-coaster of a good time!
3 November 2012
Bigfoot can take its place alongside the great Bigfoot movies of the past such as Sasquatch, Abominable and Boggy Creek. Where Bigfoot can one-up them is with the amazing cast. Barry Williams and Danny Bonaduce are the stars. Howard Hessman and Alice Cooper are cast in supporting roles. The photography is quite good. The dialogue is to die for. Lots of little hidden references to Danny and Barry having known each other in the past that will bring a smile to anyone old enough to remember them as childhood actors. The CG for Bigfoot is not overdone making the monster fun and enjoyable. The story has a great message about the environment. Also the story allows even the bad guys to be fun. So why only an 8 and not a 10? It was good but not Sharktopus good. Still a great piece of entertainment! Thank you Asylum! Keep up the good work. I'd pick Bigfoot over Inception, Prometheus, or The Dark Knight Rises any day of the week!

Machete (2010)
10/10
Best Movie of the Year !
1 September 2010
I just finished a pre-release screening of Machete. I see 2 to 3 theatrical movies per week, and Machete is hands down my pick for Best Movie of the Year. Studios have forgotten how to make a fun movie. Apparently Robert Rodriguez has not. He and his team of filmmakers seem to grasp like no other studio what actually made the old grindhouse flics of yesterday so fun to watch. We get humor without a side-dish of mushy sentimentality. We get action that is unapologetically over the top. It is also a brilliant move to create a Latino hero like Machete. I hope to see the character return again and again in the future. Casting could not have been more perfect. I seriously doubt that anyone other than Danny Trejo could have brought the character of Machete to life in such a brilliant way. I was also happy to see that this movie didn't subject itself to the awful trend of trying to make every movie PG or PG-13. I am an adult and I want to see more movies made for adults! Thank you Machete for bringing on the R rating! I will definitely be seeing this movie again this weekend in one of the local Alamo theatres. Thanks to everyone involved for a truly great movie!

Just a simple fun movie
4 June 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Lockjaw: Rise of the Kulev Serpent is also marketed under the title of Carnivorous. While there is no denying that this is a low-budget movie, low budget doesn't mean that the movie is not fun. It does have all of the traits of a Sci-fi channel movie, such as the monster appearing early on in the movie (a sci-fi channel requirement as I understand it). Still, I enjoyed it. While the writing and plot had some holes, none were any worse than what I witnessed when I watched the big-budget Angels & Demons. The acting, while not brilliant, was adequate. Nothing about it caused me to be removed from the story. The plot and writing were probably the weakest points. Still I would argue that the writing was no more predictable or formula based that what is seen every week on such hit TV shows as 24, House, or Prison Break. I think it is nice to be able to watch a fun light horror/sci-fi story without having to be heavily invested in the characters. A big budget movie would have played up the loss of the husbands wife and dwelt on his heart-ache and pain after her death. It was nice to not have to have such an emotional entanglement, and simply be able to set back and enjoy what was clearly meant to be a light fun movie. It reminds me of the type thing we used to watch at drive-in theatres. Never too much drama, just lots of light-hearted fun. I would recommend this to anyone who just wants to watch a fun movie.
