Return to Horror Hotel (2019)
Ignore the trailer, the film itself is fun
It was kitchy in a fun way. I really did enjoy watching it.
Purdah (2018)
Inspiring and beautiful. A must-see film
Purdah takes us inside the lives of a struggling Muslim family in India, held together by a strong sense of love and loyalty long after abandoned by the father. This stunning documentary reminds us that even in the most restrictive and challenging situations, the quest to fulfill one's dreams and live with dignity can be achieved. This is a must-see film.
Chasing the Win (2016)
A beautiful and inspirational film
Chasing the Win is a richly-textured examination of much more than the sport of race horsing, the art of horse training, and the business of owning racehorses. This is an inspiring film that should be viewed closely. The layers of relationship, community, determination, self-awareness, spirituality, and faith all are beautifully woven throughout. Watch this film. It will nurture your soul and inspire each of us to chase our passions.
Stadium Anthems (2018)
It's more than satire -- it's a great film
I found Stadium Anthems and Scott Douglas Brown fascinating; so fascinating, that I watched it several times.. Brown's use of raunch to deliver biting satire of contemporary American culture in general--and music culture in particular--reminded me of Robert Crumb and his Zap Comix (particularly Felix the Cat). And full disclosure--while a college student in the late sixties/early seventies, I devoured Zap Comix. In my close viewing of Stadium Anthems, I found what I consider to be Brown's serious message: don't make a monkey out of me. It plays throughout the film. Brown has taken the sick reality of debauchery and misogyny in the entertainment industry, and shown individuals with integrity can have positive impact. I really liked this film. The cinematography is excellent, the music is terrific, the acting superb, and don't let Brown fool you with the cover of raunch. He's a deep thinker. And he also has a great sense of humor.
The Eve (2015)
An enjoyable, old-fashioned thriller
A bit of a mix of Twilight Zone, Psycho, and Alfred Hitchcock. I actually found this thriller fun to watch and the cinematography was great! Make some fresh popcorn, put your feet up on a hassock, and enjoy. I sure did.
