Fajr al islam (1971)
Beautiful but not critical
An amazing movie, with great production, that makes you relive the Arabian tribal times of prophet Mohammad, & the spiritual confusion that people lived at the time. Although the movie is conventional & not critical of the dominant narrative.
Al midan (2013)
Amazing & True with Some Setbacks!
I didn't watch the full movie yet, since it's banned here in Egypt! But anyway, from the trailer, & what other revolutionaries here are saying, the movie really seems to give a early-complete authentic screening of the struggle we do still here in Egypt to push our revolution to success. Even though, the movie depends only on the chronicling of few revolutionaries, mostly men, it does seem to express the true stance of all revolutionaries here (who form a minority in the Egyptian society, that's divided between supporting the military rule or the Muslim Brotherhood), as we both fight against the 60-old military regime (which still governs the country), along with fighting against the attempt of MB to reach power & turn the country into another dictatorship, that's theocratic in nature! Though I'm still sad that the movie didn't give enough concentration on the specific struggles of revolutionary girls, that are much worse than what revolutionary men face during sit-ins & demonstrations. Maybe another documentary hopefully reveals those deeply inflicted wounds & constant horrible situations revolutionary girls face in Egypt, & can't openly talk about in an ultra conservative society that highly prejudices women...
