El Presidente (2020)
Far below my expectations
El Presidente shows us how corrupted is football asociations around the world, not only CONMEBOL. That's something that everybody who loves football knows (including myself) and El Presidente put it on real numbers but with a small comedic atmosphere.
So far I have no complaints.
But... and it's a big BUT...
I was expecting a lot more.
I have the feeling that some aspects neededed to be polished.
From the Jadue's bald hair to the Harris wig.
Some episodes feels like empty and that's including the last episode. The first half hour it's completely pointless and slow.
And something I can't stand in an Amazon TV show:
Unless you were Wagner Moura in Narcos, why in the earth they couldn't search for a cast that natively speaks the language of the character that they perform?
There are argentinian actors playing brazilian and american roles, chilean actors playing uruguayan roles, mexican actors playing chilean roles and so.
I really don't understand why they didn't search for a native cast depending of the character.
The ending shows us that a 2nd season is coming and it's going to be about João Havelange.
So I hope that in the next season they could make the TV show that is up to the task of what we were expecting of the first one.
De Premier (2016)
Bad ending / good ending
De Premier is a good thriller that will keep you well entertained for almost two hours. It's not the kind of movie that you will remember for your entire life neither has that intention.
It has some good actings and some situations feels a little bit hard to believe.
But ok, I'm willing to concede it.
The main thing with this movie was THE ENDING.
***MAJOR SPOILER INCOMING:***
Looks like the writers were in a rush when they wrote the following ending:
The whole situation of a Prime Minister trying to kill a US President was solved by almost a hand shaking between the victimns and the criminals.
"Let us keep this in secret" was the feeling right after POTUS life was threated by a gun in her head. "Call me" says POTUS to the Prime Minister, something that the criminals has missed. Yes, the very same criminals that could even read their notepad in their computers.
After that the Prime minister reveals the kidnapping and the kidnappers, and with the help of POTUS the criminals get caught and the movie ends with a "happy ever after" with the PM playing in his house with his family safe and well guarded by some security guys.
But a big "BUT":
The very last picture of the movie shows us the Prime Minister playing with his family and a out-of-focus security guy. A few seconds later the focus changes from the prime minister to the gun of the security guard.
And I don't think this was a meaningless picture.
Considering that the attack was orchested by the POTUS chief of security himself, in some way I feel that this very last image tell us that the actions of the Prime Minister will not remain without consequences.
And I think that it gives a little bit of "reality" to an ending that initially looks so hard to believe.
5/10
The Vast of Night (2019)
Some people was expecting Men In Black
Sometimes I can't stand what I'm reading.
Most of bad reviews are pointing to this movie was boring or this is mainly people talking (I can't believe that this was an actual critic). If you like movies where people don't talk you should go and see Cast Away or some.
This movie is not Men In Black, Cloverfield nor Independence Day.
This is a subtle science fiction movie where the most gripping thing is the acting of the cast, the long shots, the disturbing atmosphere and the fact that the camera is actually travelling from a site to another.
If you are looking for devastated cities by a huge creature or maybe you are looking for to be thrilled with a couple of guys with energy weapons slashing and butchering some aliens, you are going to be dissappointed.
But if you are looking for a movie with a very low budget and a really good thrilling, intriguing and gripping story, this movie is for you.
