Back Roads (2018)
Nice Movie
Quite a nice movie, it has its flaws but it's watchable. What I liked most is the music by John Hunter specially at the end, normally one does not look at the rolling credits at the end of the movie... but this kind of music kept me listening till the very end.
Beirut (2018)
Beirut?
Does not look like Beirut, movie maker never went to Lebanon, he could have made the movie in Caracas as well. So much talking and such a lack of daylight, makes the movie unwatchable. Sorry I watched it 10 minutes and could not stand it anymore.
Transsiberian (2008)
A forgotten jewel.
This movie is a jewel, the director Brad Anderson really makes movies the way it should be, the movie takes you with on a journey through Siberia, with breathtaking bird eye views, music and sound are good, they may be some imperfections but they get lost in the perfect fairytale like photography as well as the realistic pics of people in the train. I do not understand how this movie got such a low rating. Is it because of the absence of marketing and publicity. Many movies with higher ratings make me drowsy and sleepy , this one kept me awake and tense. All in all a good movie!
God's Own Country (2017)
The movie needs english subtitles
The Rumanian boy who learned english from his mother who teaches english in Rumania is the only one in the picture who speaks understandable english. As a Rumanian not used to the local dialect there should be a lot of misunderstandings in the movie between the characters. Just to make the movie more realistic... He comes to a farm and understands everybody... totally unacceptable in my view.
Kiss of Death (1947)
Why "Kiss of Death"?
Well I did not get the point why this movie was called "Kiss of Death". I expect a "femme fatale" in a movie with that title but there was none. The movie is dated, an average film noir of the forties, but the acting of Richard Widmark is simply great and the wheelchair incident was quick but splendid for the forties. The loving father figure was quite overacted. Overall the movie is still worth seeing when you are a film noir fanatic. The script is OK but somewhat predictable, the shooting scene at the end was fast and quite unreal. But most of all ...the last spoken lines sounded irritating and should be better for a nowadays public. Normally I would give it a 5 but Widmark's performance tilted it up to a 6.
The Water Diviner (2014)
History rewritten to please the Turks.
Normally as a movie I would have given it a 5, some images were nice, and I like Russel Crowe as an actor, but the movie was somewhat boring, and quite incredible. Finally I gave it a 1, and the main reason is that the movie is totally historically incorrect. Specially when I saw the Greeks at the end pictured like half drunk Pirates of the Caribbean... The Turks denying almost a full century the genocide of Armenians, Greeks and Assyrians, they will love the movie as historically correct. Some actors acted like wooden puppets, and the movie did not give any clue why the little boy and his uncle could speak English in 1919. The second language of the Ottoman Empire was French in those days.
