Without a Trace (2002)
What a waste of what could be a great show
I've come to hate this show--the agents are so over the top and the events are so badly done that to say it stretches reality is greatly beyond an understatement. Malone is off-kilter so much he should be in jail for all the stuff he pulls. The personal drama between the characters detract too much from what's going on. The agents consistently abuse, threaten, and brow-beat suspects, witnesses, and victims that that whole unit should be looking for new jobs...or suspension at the least. I've stopped watching this show...no originals, no reruns, no more TiVo season pass.
I started watching because of Eric Close--I thought this show would give him a chance to truly develop into a top-tier actor, but that just has not happened. LaPaglia is good as Jack Malone, but the overdone maverick behavior of Malone so distracts from the show--greatly so. However, the one actor that truly shines in the show is Marianne Jean-Baptiste as agent Vivian Johnson. She is the only one on the show that acts like an FBI agent with the portrayal of the character's personal side being the most believable.
And to the CBS directors and writers, you guys need an FBI technical adviser for more than just a few shows...or fire Mark Llewellyn for doing such a poor job.

What is wrong with this show?!?
God, could this show get any worst?!? I've been watching this show in reruns on TBS and tivo-ing the new new season, but after watching some of the episodes, I don't know way I do. The writers are absolutely horrible with the conduct of the FBI team. Detaining and questioning the brothers until four (4 AM) in the morning is so unrealistic and unbelievable, unless of course you feel we live in a police state... The only reason I really watch this show is because of Eric Close--he definitely got a raw deal with "Dark Skies" previously--and Anthony LaPaglia (but only marginally--the producers could have gotten a second-rate actor to play Jack Malone better than LaPaglia...and at a cheaper money). Anyway, way is CBS still running this show?!? Unless the writers can get their collective asses out of their heads, I don't see any reason to continue watching this crap. Seriously, NCIS and the Women's Murder Club rates above this show...
Without a Trace: Wannabe (2004)
What is wrong with this show?!?
I finally got to see this episode in rerun today, and I am completely annoyed with the show. This episode is just another in so many that are horrible with the police conduct of the FBI team. In so many episodes, the team is quick to judge and even act on suspicion against an adult--preemptively detaining or "leaning on" the individual--without any evidence or material to support any wrong-doing, but, here, the team just lets these girls off with stern look during questioning...what a joke, what a insult. These girls admit to basically false imprisonment and assault--possibly sexual assault due to having the boy undress and taking the photo...considering a picture like that would be consider child pornography if found in the possession of an adult. What does the team do?? Nothing. The show leaves the impression that the worst that happens to these girls is a stern talking to by their parents--give me a break, these are the same parents that raised these girls... The actions of these girls pushed an already berated-feeling boy into suicide. Yea, I know it's just a show, but this is just wrong. In so many episodes, the team "strong arm" individuals so bad that it actually detracts from the story. The writers really need to do a be job--half the stuff the team gets away with would not hold up in reality. And people wonder why society generally accepts police-state-like actions in the real world. Yea, it's just a show, but it could be a better show. The girls should have been arrested. The school should have expelled the girls. The boy's parents should sue all the girls' parents. Or, at least there should have been the hint of it at the end of the episode.
