Death in Paradise: Painkiller Thriller (2022)
General review...
I've loved DIP since the start but I find myself getting annoyed now at some of the things that pop up now. Things like Naomi always referring to Florence as "Sarge" - they're the same rank, she'd call her by name (this may have happened with JP too); Naomi always wearing her hat indoors - why?? Also, why the introduction of really annoying characters? At least Parker was made less so, probably due to audience reaction, but Ruby would never have made it as a cop, Marlon would have been disciplined for insubordination and as for Izzy... I understand that it's fiction, I understand that it's meant to be light-hearted but can we please have a moratorium on characters that produce homicidal feelings in the viewers? 😂
NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service: Love Lost (2022)
Entertaining but not the same...
I've watched NCIS since the beginning and always loved it. I also watched JAG (several times) and loved it too. So, while it was great to see Patrick Labyorteaux back onscreen and back at NCIS, it's strange to see him in a different role. I kept expecting McGee to recognise him and ask if he's working undercover! 😂
I have grown to like each of the characters as they came into the show but it's not the same without Gibbs. That said, Parker is growing into the part and making it his own. This episode is very good, the new SecNav is excellent and I had the wrong "perp" from the beginning. I'm still watching...
Death in Paradise: Murder on the Airwaves (2019)
Great, but flawed
I love DiP. I have done from the start and each time there's a new Inspector I'm sure I won't like them as much as the previous one but I do. However, some of the glaring errors annoy me even though it's fiction and this episode was no exception. The story was fine and, as usual, the explanation was great with Jack doing his "thing." That said, the investigation of Jack as Florence's SIO was ridiculous. He'd never have been investigated by a lower ranking officer. Her attitude to a superior officer in the way she spoke to him was insubordination and he should have reprimanded her. I know it was the run up to the uninteresting Madeleine joining the team but even so...
One Royal Holiday (2020)
Predictable but comfortable
This film follows the standard formula but it's none the worse for that - it certainly isn't the worst out of the stable.
My main gripe is that if the King died last year, James would be King, not Crown Prince as the film makes it clear that his mother was a Commoner before her marriage therefore is not the reigning monarch. Other than that, it's a cosy inoffensive movie.
The Town Christmas Forgot (2010)
Stranded family sees the light.
If you're looking for an Oscar-winning blockbuster then you'll be sorely disappointed but if you're looking for a feel-good, family movie that reminds all us gadget-orientated, money-obsessed individuals that the truly important things in life are the people we live with and that true happiness comes from giving (of yourself) not taking, then you'll like this cheesy movie. The acting isn't great, but it's good enough; the script is predictable and not clever but it works. It doesn't promise to be anything other than what you'd expect from a made-for-t.v. movie- and that's its attraction. If you watched this then posted a negative review, then you have no soul and have more in common with The Grinch than Santa Claus.
