'The Stone of Folly' provides the cure.
9 January 2003
Simply put - this is a beautiful film. Inspired by the Bosch painting ' A Cure for Folly', it is set in a medieval 'hospital' where many of the days inspired cures are practiced. The opening scene with a patient and a hammer sets the tone for this inspired dark comedy.

The Stone of Folly is a beautifully animated film with stunning art direction and a great story. If your a fan of stop-motion animation you should see this if you haven't yet. It deservedly won the Jury Prize at Cannes and might be available soon from the National Film Board, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Memento (2000)
A Leonard Connection?
25 August 2002
Well for starters the movie was brilliant. If you haven't seen Following, his first film, stop reading and go do it now.

Now I haven't thought of the possible connection but I am throwing this out there for you die-hard Memento fans. In Godard's Alphaville, the character Lemmy turns over a photograph and the name Leonard is written on the back (along with some other stuff).

Just tossing it out there. By the way go see Donnie Darko if you haven't already. It's a great first film.

Long Live The King!

I am not sure that I am able to add anything new to the running dialogue. What I do want to say is that after watching BLUE VELVET as a teenager I knew that film could be high art. And MULHOLLAND DRIVE is certainly that as was LOST HIGHWAY. David Lynch is a genuine master of his medium. His films aren't perfect and that's o.k. by me. His work has always left me inspired and hungry. I relish any opportunity to introduce his work to anyone anyplace anytime I get a chance to.
