Love & Justice: In the Footsteps of Beethoven's Rebel Opera (2023)
Beautiful, fascinating, deeply moving; a true gem
Love and Justice: In the Footsteps of Beethoven is one of the very few movies I have watched twice, and might even watch a third time. I was hesitant to watch it at first because, not being an opera enthusiast, I thought I would be bored. Much to my surprise, however, it held my interest throughout. I was always curious to see where the individual stories would lead and how they would interconnect. I also appreciated the unpretentiousness of the movie: the opera performed in a barn house, the director's personal comments, the fascinating insights into Beethoven's personality and quirks. Most of all, I enjoyed the beauty and intimacy of the film: the powerful close-up interviews, the down-to-earth performance of the music, the feel of Valparaiso. A gorgeous movie, thought-provoking, stirring, and unforgettable.
