Christmas with the Chosen: Holy Night (2023)
Not What I Expected
The intro was the director and wife who ended their annoying dialogue with a nod to a QR code for special deals to be found on an on line store.
Then, the director gave a long over explanation about the film that seemed almost apologetic.
Next, his wife provided an equally long, casual sermon connected to the birth of Christ in the most confusing, round about way.
A slew of Christmas carol and Worship music videos were then delivered in every genre found on the radio. All good, but weirdly inserted. Starting with a Southern rock style version of, 'Go Tell It On the Mountain."
The musicians were all very good, but after 45 minutes it was hard to enjoy the music with distracted thoughts of mine wondering when will the film begin.
I left after the third video to pick up my vehicle, it was being serviced nearby, and walked back in at the start of the actual film!
Great acting, but far too short. It was choppy with an abrupt and disjointed end - more like a series of movie trailers.
The Boccellis followed-beautiful. Would have made a good ending, but..,,,No! Another quasi sermon !
Not to be outdone, more music videos, including a Kennedy Center like stage pile up sing along of all the musicians . One or two more music videos followed before the credits rolled.
That rendition of a traditional Christmas carol was remarkable!
All in all, should have been left as a series with a Christmas music special of songs inspired by and from the series.
