Seis Manos Review: Respect the lore and enjoy the gore
Seis Manos first two episodes set up a binge-worthy season of lore, gore and KUNG FU!!! Each episode's cliffhanger caused me to have just finish the show quickly despite my initial intent to savor it. I found the story telling to be so gripping. I remain heartbroken by the losses the characters endured, which speaks to how quickly the story tellers were able to get me invested in them. The attention to detail, like the egg used by the local healer had me reflecting on things my mom would do and say since Voodoo is in my culture. But my favorite thing were all the hilarious quips and com backs by Brister. They all paid off so well- he was by far my favorite character, with Jesus a close second and the possessed Isabell's flowing locks totally a favorite visual of the show. My daughters who are teenagers- and also huge fans of anime said they found the art style to be a bit different then the anime they are used to but they were super complimentary and impressed by so many of the backgrounds and details that agreed were really lovely and well done. I really enjoyed this show and got super into it by episode 3. I found so much of the story to be fresh and found the series to be an artful combination of things Latinx with Kung Fu. While the fight choreography was amazing, I do have a gripe about the snipers letting the barrels hang over the roof of the building where they were perched. Other then that, I really dug this series and look forward to more of it.
