Count Yorga, Vampire (1970)
Two Fangs Up for Count Yorga
I recall seeing this film upon it's original release and it had audiences springing out of their seats several times.
The most memorable thing about this film is the suave and dry line delivery by actor Robert Quarry, who can switch from witty guest to savage vampire in a matter of moments.
Quarry went on to reprise his role in a slightly bigger budgeted sequel(which was practically a remake),and when he shows up, no explanation is given about how he survived the previous film.
The DVD from MGM is very fine, though I wish that they had used Quarry on the commentary track. His comments would have been most interesting. Still for a film that began as a soft core porno( you can see the drastic cuts in certain scenes) it all holds together pretty well, thanks to the superlative work of the title character.
The Witch's Dungeon: 40 Years of Chills (2006)
A Treat For Classic Horror Fans
This video love letter to classic horror fans is a must for collectors. Director Vincent has done an admirable job of showing why this small museum is visited by so many in 3 weeks in October, plus it has some marvelous interviews with many in the genre. Cortlandt Hull's work and affection from the genre shines through every frame. It is marvelous that the likes of Vincent Price and June Foray felt the museum so important, that they provided support and voice work gratis. The film also does not use a lot of public domain footage, but rather plays around with still imagery in an imaginative and visually interesting way.
My only caveat is that sometimes the interviewees wander away from discussing the museum, but their tales are nonetheless interesting to genre lovers.
