The Devil and Daniel Webster (2003)
A good film whose weaknesses in the writing are covered up by a great cast
This gem of a movie will probably not be a blockbuster when it finally is released. The storyline, which has been used many times before and most people will consider that a negative, could be summed up as, "everyone deserves to get a second chance to appreciate what you've got". Nevertheless, this is a classic story and it has all the ingredients to make this an interesting film. This must be the sort of movie that every good actor and actress would love to have a role in as the screenplay has been written by an accomplished screenwriter. It is a farcical melodrama rather than a comedy but nonetheless highly enjoyable. It has a wonderful cast and it was well-acted so I'm not sure I could ask for more. All in all, I heartily recommend this film.
Surf Party (1964)
Fun, fun, fun in the sun, sun, sun...
A bunch of us just watched this film together and it was just a lot of fun, fun, fun! I mean, c'mon, you can't take these surf movies seriously. It's not going to win any awards or anything like that, but sometimes it's just enjoyable to watch old surf films because of the rock stars and the surf music from the 60's.
Two of my favorite songs in this film were performed by The Routers and The Marketts, two of the groups which were formed by Michael Z. Gordon. The Routers played, "Crack Up" and "Let's Go!". Their LP is still in my music collection today. I also like the Astronauts who I think are still performing.
You can't watch this film for it's acting, photography or production value. But if you want to watch it as a flashback to the early surfing days, then this is a perfect film for you to watch cuz it's a fun, fun, fun film to watch!
