I Superbiker (2011)
Could have been much more.
Bike enthusiasts will probably conclude it's worth a watch for the great footage and some behind the scenes insights. As a documentary, though, it feels, 'empty', like it fails to ever get 'under the surface' of the subject. To some extent it just has that 'another Netflix documentary' feel about it. Part of it is due to the over-use of 'dramatic' music. It's hard to get over once you notice it. It's a common phenomenon with documentaries but all the more frustrating and distracting with this subject matter because it seems to come in every single time the bikes are racing. Ironically, this is the place it's least needed. The subject matter is dramatic enough and, on top of the sound of the bikes, and the commentary, and the crowds, it's complete overkill. It feels formulaic, like someone was following the 'make a documentary' manual instead of being truly sympathetic to the subject matter and, most importantly, the audience.
