Last Great Cartoon Show
25 January 2009
"The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" are just that. Marvelous.

This is probably the last great cartoon show on Cartoon Network outside of Chowder. For a man that has grown up watching cartoons, I have to say that the shows on Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon for that matter, have been falling off in quality lately. Flapjack excluded.

With the mixed media, the use of watercolor, the writing, the quirky stories, all of it is spectacular.

It's like we say in improvisation, you have to find the love. This show really does a good job at showing the love between mother and baby, mentor and protégé, and between friends.

Sure, Captain K'nuckles is a crass bad influence, he lies, he cheats, he steals, he's greedy, gluttonous, and whiney, but the lessons taught and learned are great.

Flapjack is such a sweet, kind, energetic kid, it's hard not to fall in love with this nautical-nonsense cartoon.

A different kind of funny, finally.

The basis for this show is a comedy troup originally from Chicago, Illinois. They have "Totally f*cked up sketch comedy." And it's that. Sketch comedy for those who are not exactly of the "normal mind set." I thouroughly enjoy this television program as do many people I know. The skit that the posted review mentions, "Shut Up," was part of the episode of the chilren's revolution. The whole show is connected by the UCB tryng to create chaos through kids. It shows kids on a bus who get hassled by the driver, and a puppet show put on my very obvious teamsters. It's hilarious. Not only is the script very well written, the actions in the show are also priceless.

Ancient Greece meets The Depression

Brilliant. The Coen Brothers have done it again. Their mix of Homer's story and american history makes for a great film. I havent met one person who has seen it who doesn't like it. The way that the editors changed the colors of almost every scene gives it the exact feel for the exact moment. The characters are superb and there is just enough comedy, drama, and action.
