Kingsman: The Secret Service (2014)
walked out
One of the worst movies I have ever seen. The scene in the church was the last straw. That is when I walked out and sat in the lobby and waited for the folks I was with to finish watching. Samuel Jackson's character was a stereotypical joke that was just insulting. The violence was gratuitous and too over the top for me. See earlier comment about the church scene . If you enjoy watching a lot of people get killed with a plot that appeared to be written by a 13 year old teenage boy then this movie is for you. The scene. With the killing of the dog just horrible. It was billed as a parody of James Bond . Again if a teenage boy had written it sure. The movie starts with someone being killed by being slashed into two pieces from head to toe and it went downhill from there. I could not find one redeeming thing about this movie and wish i had not seen the first half of it.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
The Matrix Meets Pulp Fiction Meets La La Land.
Have not been this disappointed in a movie in along time . I made myself sit through the whole thing so folks couldn't say I missed something by not seeing it through. I gave it two stars because of the brilliant acting. Otherwise it would have been 1.
I actually got the point of the movie and saw what they were trying to do. But it just seemed to be written by teenage boys who grew up watching Kung Fu Movies. The Scenes with the Movie Star and her husband along with the Mom and daughter in the parking towards the end of the movie were outstanding.
However the scenes with the butt plugs and the dildo were too much. Childish and silly. And the rocks talking to each other , really?
The moment where one of the characters asked if they could just stop fighting really resonated with me. I thought to myself. Yes please. We got the point 30 minutes into the film. All the fighting represented the personal conflict in her life. We don't need another hour of this.
I read a review where someone said maybe this is what Tik Tok has done to our brains. Maybe that would explain why anyone would vote this Best Picture Maybe if I were a Kung Fu fan I would ahev enjoyed the movie more. I wanted to see the movie about the Hollywood star . I wanted to see the movie about the Mother and Daughter crying in the parking lot. I didn't want to see hot dog hands and people trying to kill each other every five minutes . Too each his own. I need to watch a real movie to get this out of my brain.
Glamorous (2023)
Funny and fabulous
We love this show . Not sure why all the hate . Yes I recognized it as a gay version of Emily in Paris but also see a little Schitt's creek thrown in as well. Criticisms that say it isn't ground breaking baffle me as it is pretty groundbreaking in that is portraying a lot of LGBTQI+ relationships without batting an eye. Also folks are criticizing the main character for being shallow. Hello this is a comedy . Characters need to be flawed to drive the story line, This is not a documentary . Also I love that the characters struggle with issues of whether to be loyal to their boss or to look out for themselves. We are halfway through the series and are looking forward to see how Marko handles his two "relationships". Newsflash folks , Gay people are like everyone else . We have our moments . We can be sensitive and sweet and we can be narcissitic jerks. What the heck folks. Chill and enjoy the fun.
In from the Side (2022)
Excellent Movie
An emotionally gut wrenching beautiful story, beautifully told . Highly recommend this movie. Can't say enough good things about this movie, Acting, directing, script or all spot on. It doesn't hurt that the leads are beautiful men beautifully played but the acting takes the movie to a whole new level. Both leads have every emotional scenes that they pull off in extraordinary fashion. Just enough humor and sports male bonding to keep the movie balanced and enjoyable form beginning to end. You may need a tissue or two to get through to the end but you will be glad you did.
