Friday Night Lights: Kingdom (2010)
An Away Game for the ages
I loved this episode. Going to this away game put our beloved characters in a new setting that was a nice refresh for the show. It reminded me of that early season episode when they had the game in Smash's hometown. Every character seemed entrenched in drama! The stuff with Julie and the TA is just gross. Please stop putting Julie in bad storylines. It was tough seeing the team go through such a rough game, but coach Taylor pulled them all together. South King deserved much worse than the lions gave. I can't believe the lions are undefeated!!!! Coach Taylor is the MVP. I also loved seeing the boys bonding at the end. Overall a very strong episode.
The O.C.: The Perfect Couple (2003)
Who really is the Perfect Couple?
Ryan and Marissa are supposed to have their first official date. Best date ever! Kirsten and Sandy are in their legal battle over the wetlands. Anna thinks all Seth talks about is Summer. How could he not. She's the best!!!!
Julie is hosting some children's hospital benefit and Caleb is there to save the day with us yacht. This is an interesting money making duo. Caleb doesn't trust Sandy. How can he not? Sandy is the nicest human on this show. Of course we trust him. Julie is also spending some congenial time with Jimmy, but only to make the family look good. Julie is the worst. Potentially worst tv parent ever. Marissa may also be the most gullible child ever. The legal battle over the heights continues and Caleb insinuates in a business meeting that Sandy is sleeping with Rachel. Another terrible parental figure on this show. Man, maybe Caleb and Julie are meant to be. Julie plays nice with Ryan. I think she's up to something. I just don't like her. Ryan catches Julie making out with Caleb. Ew (like Summer's catchphrase).
Anna and Seth are trying to help Ryan plan the BEST DATE EVER. That date turns into going to the benefit. To prove Seth is not obsessed with Summer, he invites Anna to the benefit. Maybe he should just date Anna instead of being obsessed with Summer. I don't think that can change.
The whole gang is at the benefit on the yacht. Is this our first Kaitlin appearance? A young Shailene Woodley does some excellent acting. She's so cute Pre Aaron Rodgers. Of course Summer is jealous of Anna and Seth and likes Seth. Anna wants to kiss Seth. Summer admits she likes Seth.
Gullible Marissa thinks her parents are getting back together, but Ryan admits that he saw Julie and Caleb making out. Ew!!! And then Marissa ruins the evening announcing they're a couple, officially ending Julie and Jimmy's marriage.
The episode title is "The Perfect Couple" but who is the perfect couple? Sandy and Kirsten? Ryan and Marissa? Seth and Summer? Seth and Anna? Julie and Jimmy? Julie and Caleb? (Not the last two)
Seth is just hilarious at the top of this episodes. All the one liners. I don't know who want Seth to be with, but I just want him to be happy. He's the best, but Summer has the best line when she says "they don't even have a PF Changs there." How dare Chino not have a PF Changs?
MVP of the episode is Seth for being funny and having two smart, cute girls like him. LVP is Caleb. He's just weird and creepy, gaslighting, and unprofessional. Episode grade B+.
The O.C.: The Rivals (2004)
Why Doesn't Marissa Trust Ryan?
Time and time again Ryan follows his intuition and is right, yet naive Marissa doesn't trust him! He clearly has some street smarts, but Marissa always thinks he's wrong. Oliver just magically showed up at this school. Where are this child's parents? Ryan breaks into the school to snoop into Oliver's file. For a private school, the security at this place sucks.
This Danny guy is not funny. Summer is using this poor fool to get under Seth's skin which is working. And Anna sees it all.
I love how Luke is now part of the gang. Even he is suspicious of Oliver.
Side note: Julie Cooper's new hair is not cute.
The O.C.: The Links (2004)
What a weirdo!
At the beginning of this episode I was getting creepy vibes from this Oliver guy. I definitely thought he was going to hurt Marissa. He is so manipulative. Ryan is on to him and Marissa is just being a naive Marissa all over the place. This obviously causes tension between them. Oliver is such a creep. Reminds me of an ex of mine.....
I'm really excited for Sandy and Jimmy to run a restaurant. Cohen humor will abound from this.
The O.C.: The Heights (2003)
Will they won't they
We have finally made it to the first day of school. Seth is using Anna to make Summer jealous. Ryan joins the soccer team and makes a clean tackle on Luke. Marissa plans a carnival and is debating on which boy to date. The adult Cohens are now immersed in a legal battle between Kirsten's father's company and Sandy's law firm.
A decent episode. Excellent one liners from Seth as always and Anna is really an amazing character. Unfortunately our sass queen, Summer, is not at her optimal sass levels, not enough "ews." Hoping the will they won't they of Ryan and Marissa is over and they will just date already.
The O.C.: The Rescue (2003)
Less candles this time please
Marissa is in the hospital recovering. Ryan is trying to get to the private school everyone goes to. Seth and Summer are teaming up to help Marisa not go to a rehab facility. Jimmy and Julie continue to argue over their divorce and Julie wants to take full custody of their daughters. Jimmy then asks for legal advice which leads to Kirsten crashing drinks with Sandy and the new coworker Rachel. Marissa flees to Jimmy's new place when she breaks out of the hospital. Of course Jimmy has no clue of Julie's plans. After some pleading with Julie, Marissa gets to stay with Jimmy now.
I really feel bad for Marissa. She's going through a lot; father's fraud, cheating boyfriend, parent's divorce. Jimmy Cooper is definitely in the running for worst TV dad of all time and yet I feel bad for him, but his wife is pretty terrible too. Ryan, Seth, and Summer attempting to break Marissa out was gold. Seth has the best line reads in the series. When are Seth and Summer just gonna hook up? I also enjoyed Seth's suggestion of hiding Marissa in a model home. Just less candles this time... please. This episode has everything that makes the OC great: drama, terrible parents, a classic OC crew mess around, Sandy being classically charming, and a happy ending.
The O.C.: The Escape (2003)
Why is everyone kissing someone they're not with?
The crew pack up and head from the OC to Tijuana, Mexico. Is Tijuana really the hot spot for teen road trips? I really love the running theme of Summer saying "Ew." What a Queen!! Marissa catches Luke cheating in her at a club with Holly. Where will they have all their parties now that Holly and Luke got caught? Marissa, distraught by catching her cheating boyfriend, steals some of the pain killers intended for Summer's step mom, runs away from the group, and gets lost in Mexico. It doesn't look good for our girl next door.
Meanwhile the parents are stuck in the drama of Jimmy's fraud case and divorcing Julie. A storyline no one saw coming! Of course he makes a move on Kirstin. Why is everyone kissing someone they're not in a relationship with? Sandy is offered a new higher paying job. Not a great storyline.
As with any episode, the music is perfectly curated and placed in the episode.
