Prowl (2010)
The worst film I have ever seen
This is the worst film I have ever seen ever! I bought it on DVD for £8 my friend said she had heard good things about it and it should have been a real scare-fest. The story is just shocking you can see everything that comes up and instead of the twist being a surprise it was more of "please don't do what I think your going to do, oh" then a lot of cringing. The timing of plot points is way too quick which leaves just a lot of boring scenes that don't really need to be there I found myself getting distracted by a passing fly or something shiny. Technically wise it's also shocking, the lighting makes it look a B-movie I thought I could have made a better horror film with my college equipment (and I plan to). The colours are too pale and it doesn't have the cinematic sheen that feature films for that price should. The editing was horrendous cutting between a two shot to another two shot which was exactly the same with the focus slightly different it made me cry, there were other shots where objects and character movements are in different places, It felt wrong. The vampires were a carbon copy of the vampires in "30 days of night" appearance wise. The one good thing in the film was the gore and deaths but it's no where as good as final destination.
This is a horrible film that should never have been made, it's a badly edited, badly written attempt to copy "30 days of night" stay away from it.
Insidious (2010)
One of the best Horror's I have seen..... ever
I saw the trailer for this film I thought wow this looks great but so did the trailer for 'Drag me to Hell' a couple of years back and that was shocking. Insidious however did not disappoint. This film blew me away. From the makers of Saw I was expecting a lot of gore and cheesy lines, instead I was shown a masterpiece. The opening credits were like a style icon in the land of film; the mixture of eerie music, black and white visuals and red graphics sets the mood for the film. Throughout feature it uses the 'good old conventions' for horror films, but instead of paranormal activity where it was really cheesy, the slamming of doors, creaking of floor boards and the rocking of a rocking horse all fits in a new fresh way, that will make the audience jump - it made me jump and I never jump at horror films. The end of the film starts to feel like a game, the lighting, setting are amazing and I felt completely immersed in the whole style of it.
Overall if you like old horror's, then this is a new contemporary horror film that has a great nod at the classic's, and is amazing.
Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant (2009)
Good film, Bad adaptation
I went to see this film expecting a dark teen vampire tale. I was surprised that it was very funny, at first i thought John Reily was badly chosen to play Crepsly but he made him a fun character. As a stand alone film for people who have not read the books it will be a good film. But for people like me who a fans of the books may think its not dark enough and a bit too as i say "disnified" for a lower age audience. I thought the cirque du freak scene was badly cut and badly sequenced and when Darren becomes half-vampire his slicked backed hair looked incredibly wrong. Apart from those few knick pickings an overall good film to watch.
