Under the Bridge (2024)
To think I live down block from the actual murder site.
The events depicted in the mini-series are freaky for me as I can see the actual murder site bridge from my patio. I wasn't living in Victoria then, but I heard the stories and knew one person who had to testify. I always get goosebumps crossing that bridge.
Watching the series brings true crime to a more realistic place, at least for Victoria residents. The bullying of Reena was unacceptable, and I get tears when I see the events on screen. I'm glad schools crack down on bullying, but why did Reena have to die for this to happen? It's too little too late.
It's a good representation of the actual events but very troubling. I still don't know why the city hasn't erected a memorial.
Chance (2020)
It tries and fails.
What seemed like an emotional biopic just falls flat on its face. Too much time is spent on Chance as a young 6 and 12 year old, and when you get to the meat of the movie, you have no idea what's going on. Should have been more build up. To add insult to injury, the movie ends with no explanation to what happen to the characters, or any aftermath. Seriously who was responsible for the tragedy? Were the true culprits caught? It was clear that this movie was put together by Chance's real life coach, Mike Daly, and although he is an amazing coach, one has to wonder if he put this movie together to promote himself.
