Byron Baes (2022)
Unfair reviews
To be fair, the show in eight episodes showed more range in personality perspective than something like the kardashians. It seems like the critics are more enraged at the privilege the cast exudes more than anything. There should be a "how woke are you" meter when writing a review on a reality tv show.
The show is about a downtown girl, and flamboyant influencer guy, moving to the somewhat suburbs. Something like a cross between the Hamptons meets Napa wine country meets Santa Barbara.
Naturally, the gay befriends all the girls, who were quick to band into a mean girl coalition against the new girl. This has always occurred in the wild so it should not come as a surprise that this is what happened in the show.
What I really liked about the show is that the tables were turned at the end on the Regina George character. I think that the show was heavier on the romance and less about the entrepreneurial element that they were trying to convey in the beginning. But then again "baes". Otherwise it was a good binge on my books and it made me interested in learning more about the GC and Byron culture. May go visit one day!
I'm from San Francisco so the hippie vibe was straight up my ally.
Halo (2022)
Reviewers doing the most when claiming to be a fan of the video game
I grew up playing this game. I remember ditching class in high school with my tennis teammate to play and finish Halo 3 in one day when it came out (called the school office pretending to be my friend's dad to say he was sick; I got home to erase the truant voicemail before my parents got home). Three shot BR for the win! I used the words "scrub" or "noob" more than any other word during these years hahahaha.
A lot of reviewers claim to be a fan of the video game except they seem to be a bigger fan of being disappointed. When you play the game there is a lot of unknown and mystery until you realize the premise, the Halo rings. You're kinda just enjoying shooting aliens; the gameplay was the original highlight, the storyline takes a backseat until further down the series.
It's true that production took some liberty, like the silver squad or the leader of the high covenant storyline etc . . . But this is not a video game. This is a sci-fi TV series. As a gamer of Halo I appreciated the game play references like dual wielding weapons and removing vehicle machine gun. Kudos!
I believe they incorporated the gameplay and storyline beautifully to engage both the gamer and sci-fi community. I've been anticipating this release since it was announced and it did not disappoint! The ONLY THING was something master chief did in the ship to gain trust, I could have lived without it.
I'd like this series to go far because the storyline should get better, e.g the flood! But there will be a lot of unknowns and tangibles that could make this very enjoyable for a broad audience to stay engaged and with anticipation.
