Father Brown: The Curse of Amenhotep (2015)
Higher rating than normal
Was watching Fr Brown out of the side of my when all of sudden I saw the handsome face of Josh OConnor come on screen.
Well, it was worth watching for that.
Father Brown (2013)
Anachronisms and Bad Acting
I just turned off an episode in a seminary where the mass is in English using responses written somewhere in the mid-1960s. The priest's church looks pre-Reformation but Catholics lost all of those. The vestments appear to modern Anglican ones. In another episode a military unit was having a commemoration in Fr Brown's church. That's what the CoE and rural vicars are for! The clothes seems to vary from 1920s to 1940s never reaching the 1950s. Also almost everyone is a Catholic. Brown's always giving last rites. Have people forgotten what a minority Catholics were in England at that time.
And the acting is wooden. Saw one with the beautiful and talented Josh O'Connor, no doubt early in his career, and he appeared to be phoning it in! I suspect they are encouraged to perform badly!
