Imaginur (2022)
Masterpiece
This movie definitely sets Malaysia's filmmaking industry bar to a high level. Engaging, exciting, melancholy and wonderful at the same time. Love the details placed to indicate movement of time. Main actors, as expected, both played their characters well with Beto Khusyairi and Diana displaying fine but also impactful facial gestures. Not to mention, other characters also played huge roles in setting the movie alive. Soundtracks, no need to say anything, fits perfectly. With Director Nik's previous movie, KIL, being a huge success and a creative masterpiece, IMAGINUR is far from lacking. Overall, expectation exceeded, over a high margin. IMAGINUR is a must watch.
Kongsi Raya (2022)
A feel-good Malaysian family movie.
It's not Sepet nor Ghubra. I don't think it's even comparable to those. Different genre but with the same theme. To set this straight, it's a good family movie made to make us laugh, cherish and appreciate our country's identity as a multiracial country. An attempt to highlight the importance of love and unity over something as minor as race. Although it was a bit awkward and dry in the first 20-30 minutes, the plot caught up bringing fresh and unpredictable wits played well by the actors. Elements of suspense and stress are there. The story blissfully ends with an ending that concludes what true Malaysia should taste like.
