Alice, Darling (2022)
This movie is a waste of talent and time
Anna Kendrick gives a great panicked performance that shows a range from her usual quirky roles. I expected so much more from this movie In the movie they show her on a trip with her friends hiding out from her abusive boyfriend. She learns how to sue an axe to chop wood. They hint that she likes swinging the axe and it feels good so I assumed that was going to be the ending. I was looking forward to the killing of the boyfriend but instead they just split up and that was the end of the movie. This was 2 hours of nothing and wasted potential.
Like I said I wanted to like this because I like most of Anna Kendrick's movies. She was the executive producer and I think she should have pushed for more risks in this movie because its a glorified Lifetime movie.
The boyfriend is portrayed as a rapist and sexual abuser and there is no consequences to this. They just break up so he can go do it to someone else. Skip this movie if you have the chance. I am also a man so maybe with women they connect with it more but as a man who likes rom-coms etc this movie was a terrible slog to get through.
Nikki Glaser: Good Clean Filth (2022)
I am big fan of comedy but this misses the mark
I liked Nikki in the past but this material is tired and comes off as bitter. It sounds like she is upset she is single so she postures about the dirty type of girl she is like a weird ad to date her. She is upset at men for liking younger women. She is upset at Pete Davidson for dating out of his league. It is just pure sadness and if she doesn't get married or have a kid soon she is going to have no new material. I can't listen to another special just talking about sex. I like female comedians but I cant listen to the same tired jokes. If you want real good female comedy go watch Kathleen Madigan or Taylor Thomilson. Also another knock on the special she starts it out with an original song sang by her. She isn't a good singer and that was my biggest laugh of the special. Watch it if you must or if there is nothing on but I would avoid it.
Killing It (2022)
Super Funny Highly Reccomend
This show was super funny from start to finish. I haven't laughed this hard at a comedy TV show in a long time. I know it's easy to point it out but there is nearly no woke stuff. Little thing with Trump election and mask but other than that nothing. Everyone is just a regular person. They aren't finger wagging at you or trying to teach you a grander heavy handed lesson. The cast are just people which I can't point out enough because it didn't feel like they were trying to check boxes by casting people who obviously stand out or don't belong. Everything felt realistic as weird as that sounds. Whole cast is lovable and I really hope there is a season 2.
The 355 (2022)
terrible movie with a bad director
Camera work was terrible and shaky with bad cuts and bad choreography. Also if they grounded this movie in some sense of reality I might have been able to suspend some disbelief but they have China working with America... come on.
It should have been America, UK, Columbia, with Isreal or another EU country. I don't know if they were trying to get this movie into China or something but it's just bad and pandering. Yes girl power we get it but these characters are all 2D as could be. I also understand if you want to make a man the bad guy but it cant be completely cartoonish. Diane Kruger does great with what she is given and honestly would have just wanted the whole movie focused on her without all of these secondary characters.
Also if you are on the fence look up the director and writers. The writer also wrote 2004 Catwoman and the newest Fantastic 4. That should tell you all what you need to know.
Wait for it to come out on VOD because it wont be very long.
